Brand Inspection Procedure Studied

in Ontario today to review
current brand inspection pro
cedures and types of equip
ment used by the two states.
The officials also discussed
methods for helping each oth
er in brand inspection and
prevention of livestock theft.
A similar meeting with
Washington officials is set for
Monday, Feb. 17, at north
Portland.
Last Jan. 22, the first meet
ing of this kind was held with
California livestock officers
in Medford.

Meetings Start to
Expedite Building
Of Valley Manor
The Rogue Valley Manor
Monday night began a series
of meetings to expedite con
struction of the S0V2 million
Manor. The meeting was held
in the First National bank,
with executives and personnel
of the bank.
Melvin N. Hogan, president
of the 36-member board of the
Manor, stated that 78 "mem
bers" have now signed up for
"homes" in the Manor, and
that as soon as 64 more mem
bers have signed for the re
tirement home, building will
begin. "It is our hope," Hogan
stated, "to get construction on
the 10 story building started
this spring, with a target date
for completion set for late
summer of 1959."
Walter H. Higgins, execu
tive director of the Manor, ex
plained to the staff of the
bank that the site which has
been selected and purchased
15 acres atop Barneburg hill
is only 2Vz miles from down
town Medford. Higgins
showed colored slides of the
site with its view of the Rogue
valley and surrounding moun
tains. He stated that each of
the 284 apartments will have
unobstructed views, since the
Manor site is 300 feet above
the valley floor.
George Flanagan, trustee
and treasurer of the Manor,
took the group on an imagin
ary tour of the proposed Ma
nor, using slides covering the
floor plan, facilities and apart
ments, and the detailed plans
in caring for the needs, pleas
ure, recreation and health of
the members.

Man Arraigned on
Narcotics Charge
Yreka, Calif. Edward L.
England, 36, Oakland, was ar
raigned on charges of driving
while under the influence of
narcotics in Mt. Shasta justice
court Monday.
England was arrested by
California highway patrolmen
acting on information supplied
by the Medford police depart
ment Friday. England is said
to be a partner of Raymond E.
Amiotte, 33, of San Francisco,
who was arrested by Medford
police Saturday morning on
charges of forging a doctor's
prescription to obtain nar
cotics. The two men are suspected
of being associated with
another man being held by Al
bany authorities on a narcotcs
charge. A 17-year-old Oregon
youth, arrested with England,
was being held for release to
his parents.

club rooms, laundry, air-conditioning,

recreation facilities.
Hogan emphasized that the
Manor, representing a $5Vi
million expenditure, will be a
"real boost" to the Rogue val
ley economy and will em
ploy 75 people initially and
100 when the Manor is under
way. He stated that other
similar meetings will be held
in Medford, Ashland and
Grants Pass.

$50,000 Damage Suit Filed Here
A total of S50.000 in gen
eral damages and $2,968.70 in
special damages are being
sought as a result of an ac
cident in Medford hotel June
10, according to a complaint
filed in Jackson county cir
cuit court.
Lucille J. Marsh is seeking
the damages from Asa I. Arns
berg, owner of Medford hotel,
for severe injuries she recei
ved when she slipped in the
hotel lobby and fell while
walking on her way to the
dining room, according to the
complaint.
In her complaint, Mrs.
Marsh alleges the manage
ment of the hotel was negli

E. Phillips, of Lind, Wash.,
was due at 3 p.m., according
to the Civil Aeronautics Ad
ministration at Klamath Falls.
