I n the old days, when a king lost his throne his
head usually went with it. Nowadays, a
crownless monarch is simply condemned to a
commoner's 9-to-5 job. Ex-King Michael of
Rumania, for example, was deposed by the
Communists in 1947 and now teaches
young aviators in Geneva, Switzerland,
how to use automatic pilot devices manufactured
by an American firm. His wife, also of royal blood, is
now a homemaker busy with the task of raising
their three daughters. Michael likes his new work,
but he'd probably trade his commuter's ticket
for a castle any time.
