Girl Scout
Training
Announced
Advanced camp training for
leaders of the Rogue Valley
Area Girl Scouts in skills re
quired for attendance at the
Camp Chinquapin camporee
and National Girl Scout
camping events will be given
by the scout council at the
Izaak Walton clubhouse in
Grants Pass, from 7:30 to 9:30
pjn. Thursday, January 23.
On display will be a replica
of the camp and equipment
used at the Senior Scout
"roundup" in Michigan. Mrs
Judy Drais and Miss Sandra
Ullian, the Grants Pass girls
who attended, will be on hand
to explain proce8ures and
answer questions. Slides of
the event will be shown.
Compass work will be pre
sented by Barney Douglass
and Robert Scofield of the
forest service.
Boy Scout Masters, John

Bennet and George Coots of
Troop 87 and their Scouts will
give instructions in knot ty
ing, lashing, bedrolls, tents
and simple shelters.
There will also be a display
of lashed gadgets suitable for
use in Day Camps, as well as
privitive camping.
Those planning to attend
.should register for the course
at once by calling the Girl
Scout office, SPring 2-5912.
Coffee will be served by lead
ers; other attending should
bring three sandwiches.

Holds Workshop
At Studio-Home
A workshop was conducted
by Mrs. Roberta Ward Rebb
for a group of piano students
at her residence-studio Satur
day, January 18.
Following a review of fund
amentals, ear-training and a
musical quiz, the young stu
dents performed. Works of
Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart,
Schubert and Tschaikowsky
were played with a synopsis
of each composer's life given
Heather Rode played part
of the Peer Gynt Suite by
Grieg and was dramatic nar
rator for the story of each
number played.
In anticipation of the Phil
harmonic concert to be held
Sunday, January 26, Mrs.
Bebb described for the bene
fit of the young students, the
different instruments used in
the symphony orchestra. She
also gave a preview of the
program to be given. Mrs.
Bebb is vice-president on the
Philharmonic Symphony of
Southern Oregon board.
Those participating in the
program were Linda Beatty,
Lee Ann Chamberlain. Mike

Chamberlain, Sheryl Landing,
Alden Stewart, Heather Rode,
Lois Ann Pike and Pamela
flilkison.

uary 14 meeting at the county
courthouse.

Larry Schade, Mrs. Maud
Walton, council; Mrs. George
Ware, patriotic instructor;

Mrs. Elmer Gott, musician,
Mrs. Carrie Milnes, Mrs. Fred
Scheffel and Mrs. Clarence

The officers were installed
by Mrs. F. A. Daugherty,
past department president,
and her staff with Mrs. Buch
anan acting as guide.
A flag that had flown over
the U. S. capitol building in
Washington, D. C, procured
for the group by Oregon Con
gressman Walter Norblad, was
presented by the patriotic in
structor. The tent reported giving
two flags to Brownie Scout
troops. After the meeting re-

next meeting will be held
January 28.

play conducted by the River
side Bridge club Wednesday.
High scorers in the north
south positions were Mrs.
Jack Mitchell and Mrs. Ivan
Harrington while Mrs. W. W.
Stevenson and Mrs. Frank R.
Baker were first in the east
west position. Other north
south position winners were
Mrs. Richard Milestone and
Roy Pruitt, second; and Mrs.
Paul Hatton and Mrs. B. B.
Hughes, third.
East-west winners were
Mrs. Yvonne Dalen and Mrs.
M. M. Herman, second; and
Mrs. Sam Richardson and
Thomas Randall, third.
