Couple Married on New Year's Day

Mr. and Mn. Ralph Milton Beardsley
An event of New Year'i
day was the wedding of Miss
Joy Lynne Adams and Ralph
Milton Beardsley, held in
Meeker Memorial chapel of
First Methodist church. The
bride is a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Adams, 2917 Fair
view place, and the bride
groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Beardsley, Klam
ath Falls.
Dr. George Roseberry offi
ciated for the five o'clock
afternoon ceremony, attended
by about 125 guests. White fir
trees stood at either side of
the altar and were grouped
with white candelabra hold
ing dark blue tapers. Sprays
of blue and white chrysanthe
mums decorated the pew ends,
and white candles and white
fir tips were arranged in the
windows.
The bride wore a chapel
gown of white tissue taffeta
with embroidered inserts and
a large bow in the back. Her
bouquet was a cascade of
small pink rosebuds.
The bride's "something bor
rowed" was a wedding ring
worn by her grandmother,
mother and older sister.
Miss Nancy Adams was her
sister's honor attendant and
Miss Sue Thorpe, Ashland,
was bridesmaid. Their frocks
were midnight blue silk or
ganza with sequin - trimmed
bodice, and they carried white
chrysanthemums.
George and Jack Adams,
cousins of the bride, lighted
the candles.
Mr. Adams gave his daugh
ter in marriage and Bert
Mack, Klamath Falls, was
best man. William Pedley,
Portland, and Michael Burk,
Klamath Falls, served as ushers.
Mrs. Lester Winslow, Port
land, was organist.
The reception followed in
the church. Miss Jan Smith
poured punch, Mrs. Vernon
Tenney, Ashland, took charge
of the guest book and Miss

Patricia Rukovina cut the
wedding cake. Miss Gwen
Free, Springfield, presided at
the gift table and Mrs. Raoul
Maddox, sister of the bride
from Fairbanks, Alaska, serv
ed coffee.
The bride's table and other
reception decorations were of
midnight blue and white.
The bride's mother wore a
powder blue sheath dress with
jacket, blue hat and corsage
of garnet rosebuds. The bride
groom's mother was attired in
a royal blue dress and hat
and her flowers were also
garnet rosebuds.
The bride's traveling en
semble was a black tweed suit
worn with winter white felt
hat and black accessories.
Mrs. Beardsley and his
bride will live in Eugene,
where both are seniors at the
University of Oregon.
Student Gives
New Year Party
A New Year's eve party
was held at the home of Greg
Milnes, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Milnes, 15 North
Groveland avenue, for a
group of college and high
school students.
The vacationing students
spent the evening playing
games and dancing while see
ing the New Year in.
Attending the event were

Honor Stansberry, Miss Judy
Anderson, Miss Lou Elsa
Voegtly, Miss Mary Friend,
Miss Kathy Barr, Miss Mary
Hodgins, Miss Ann Garner,

Seattle Couple
Honored at Party
Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Gra
ten, Seattle, Wash., parents
of Fred H. Graten, 1411 Euc
lid avenue, Medford, were
honored at a party Thursday,
December 27, at their son's
home.
Present for the occasion
were Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Hoppe, Mr. and Mrs. Dick
McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. Ira
Canfield, Mrs. Hazel Dickson,
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Root,
Lt. Colonel and Mrs. John
Johnson, and the hosts, Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Graten.
During the event Mrs. Gra
ten was presented an orchid
by the Hoppes and their
grandson played several clari
ent dueis with Mr. Root.
During the Washington vis
itors stay in the valley they
were entertained by Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Brereton, 161
Ross lane; Mr. and Mrs. Clar
ence Young, 2418 Hillcrest
drive, and Lt. Col. and Mrs.
Johnson, 1409 Euclid avenue.
The Breretons were neigh
bors of the Gratens in Seattle
prior to their moving to Med
ford.

Denman announce the en
gagement of their daughter,
Ann, to Clarence W. Hultgren,
Portland. He is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Carl J. Hultgren,
Eugene.
Miss Denman is a graduate
of Medford High school and
Willamette university where
she was affiliated with Pi
Beta Phi sorority. She is cur
rently in training at the Uni
versity of Oregon School of
Nursing at Portland.
Mr. Hultgren is a graduate

From Trip South
Mr. and Mrs. Vera D. Bro
phy, 749 West 14th st., re
turned Friday from a two
week holiday trip to southern
California. They were accom
panied by their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rob
ert Squires, and daughters
Stephanie and Mollie of Bel
lingham, Wash.
The travelers were Christ
mas dinner guests at the
home of Mr. Squires' parents,
Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Squires,
San Clemente. They also
i visited Disneyland before re
turning home.

Miss Sylvia Lou Teeter be
came the bride of Riley Win
chell in a double-ring cere
mony held Saturday, Dec
ember 28, at St. Mark's Epis
copal church. The Rev. George
R. V. Bolster officiated at the
two o'clock afternoon cere
mony attended by 100 rela
tives and friends.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Teeter,
1202 East Main street. The
bridegroom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. O. Winchell,
471 Ross lane, Medford.
For the wedding poinset-
tias were placed on the altar
and the church was decorated
with baskets of white chrys
anthemums. The pews were
marked with white bows and
holly. Mrs. Ernest Conrad
played the traditional organ
wedding music and George
McUne, brother-in-law of the
bridegroom, was soloist.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a white
embroidered tulle frock with
long sleeves and skirt termi
nating in a chapel train. Her
short veil was accented with
seed pearls and she carried a
bouquet of red roses and
white stock encircling a white
orchid.
Miss Linda Teeter was
honor attendant for her sis
ter. Bridesmaids were Missj
Judy Newton, Hillsboro, Miss
Mr. and Mrs. Riley Winchell
Glenna Maxwell, Haines, Ore.
and Miss Marida Winchell,
sister of the bridegroom. Jun
ior bridesmaid was Miss Vir
ginia Teeter, sister of the
bride.
The honor attendant and
the junior bridesmaid wore
ballerina length pink taffeta
frocks with long pink chiffon
sashes and carried nosegay
bouquets of red roses and
pink net. The bridesmaids
wore frocks of wine colored
taffeta with pink "chiffon
sashes and carried pink roses
with red net.
Jim Tizekker served as
best man while Wilcey Win
chell, brother of the bride
groom, Ronald McKenna,
Sutherlin, and Kenneth
Griess, seated the guests.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Teeter wore a pale green
sheath frock with pink acces
sories and green orchid cor
sage. Mrs. Winchell chose a
taupe wool sheath dress with
lavender orchid corsage.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held at the
church.. Mrs. Bradley Morris
and Miss Barbara Shannon,
Eugene, cut and served the
wedding cake. Miss ' Darlene
Smith poured the coffee and
Miss Jean Taber presided at
the punch bowl. Miss Dewan-
da .Winchell, sister of the
bridegroom, was in charge of

Following a. wedding trip
to San Francisco the couple
are making their home in
Sutherlin. For her traveling
attire the bride chose a mint
green knit suit with black ac
cessories and white orchid
corsage.
The bride is a graduate of
Medford High school and at
tended Linfield college. She
has been employed as a book
keeper by the Texas company
in Medford. The bridegroom
is a graduate of Medford
High school and Southern
Oregon college and is a teach
er at Sutherlin High school.
Out of town guests at the
ceremony were Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Harmon, Hood River,
and Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Tee
ter, grandparents of the bride,
Portland.
League Officer
Visitor in City
Mrs. Richard H. Wilcox,
Beaverton, first vice presi
dent of the League of Wo
men Voters of Oregon, spent
Saturday in Medford meet
ing with members of the lo
cal league.
Mrs. Wilcox, who serves
as state study item chairman,
discussed with local women
HJR 22, the proposed amend
ment to the state constitution
permitting county home rule.
The measure is supported
by leagues throughout the
state and will appear on the
November ballot. Mrs. Ben
Day heads the committee for
the Medford group.
