committee members, reported
that the Josephine county
Grangers gave enthusiastic
support to the plan they presented.
Thev said they plan to con
tact Granees in Klamath
Falls. Grants Pass and north
ern California and seek as
sistance in activating a 300-
bed general and 100-bed sur
gical and medical hospital
using buildings not now in
use at the camp.
Bitterling said the Jo
sephine Pomona Grange rep
resented 11 groups in that
county.

Butte Falls Grange
The Butte Falls Grange
will hold a regular meeting
Monday, Jan. 6, at 8 p.m.
at the high school auditorium.
All members are urged to
attend.
Eagle Point Grange
A potluck dinner preceded
the Dec. 17 meeting of the
Eagle Point Grange.
The Grange was opened by
the Master Cliff Moore. The
charter was draped in mem
ory of our Worthy Brother,
Grant Hubbell, who died
Dec. 15.
Wilford Davies, on agricul
ture, explained the purpose
of the Beef Commodity com
mission and advised all mem
bers who are eligible to get
their registration forms sign
ed and into the county
agents office.
Mrs. Gertrude Stanley re
ported ' on the recent trip
through Camp White Domi
ciliary and gave some im
pertinent facts of the Heller
Report made to the Veterans
administration.
HEC Shairman Mrs. Paul
Force announced the next
HEC meeting would be at
the home of Mrs. Jim Edge
on Dec. 23.
For the literary program,
Christmas carols were, sung
and appropriate readings
were given by Mrs. Jake
Brown, Mrs. C. C. Hoover
and Mrs. Lester Wertz. The
program closed with an ex
change of Christmas gifts.

Name Republican
Salem OR Attorney Gen
eral Robert Y. Thornton has
ruled that the Clakamas
county court is required to
appoint a Republican to suc
ceed Guy Pace, a Republican,
who resigned as county clerk
effective Wednesday.
The Clackamas county
court already had appointed
a Democrat to succeed Pace
before District Attorney Win
ston Bradshaw requested the
attorney general's opinion.
Thornton said the language
of the 1953 political affilia
tion law was "clear and un
ambiguous and there is no
necessity to resort to rules
of construction."
Thornton said the law ap
plied to any partisan elective
office in the state and con
cluded "it is my opinion that
the appointee must be of the
same political party as the
predecessor was designated
on the election ballot."
