District Roundtables Scheduled for Scout Leaders in District

missioner for the Big Pines dis
trict, Crater Lake, Boy Scout
Council, has announced that the
regular district roundtables for
Scout leaders will be held at
7:30 p.m. at Hedrick Junior High
school.
Separate instructio will be
given for Den Mothers, Cub
Scout leaders, and Explorer lead
ers. Safley also announced the ap
pointment of Paul Gsparatti a
assistant tfiitrict commissioner
for Cub Scout roundtables. Gas
paratti haa aervad for several
years ai Cubmtr of the Lone
Pine school Cub Jack 44. Gas
paratti replaces Jim Johtisonston
who resigned because of addi
tional duties in his profession.
Priichard Appointment
L. A. Pritchard1 has been ap
pointed district commissioner for
Boy Scout roundtables. Pritch
ard has served as a Neighbor
hood Commissioner in the Big
Pines district, and prior to com
ing to Medford, served as a Cub
master, Scoutmaster, and Order
of the Arrow Chapter advisor.
Three additional Neighbor
hood Commissioners have been
appointed. Alan Franzke will
serve Packs 2 and 3 and Squa
dron 14, Walt Marquess will
serve Pack 41 and Troop 41, and
Dr. Gene Chamberlain will serve
Pack 10, Troop 10, and Explorer
Post 10.
With the latest appointments,
the commissioner staff totals 21
men, the goal is 28 by early
1958.

Chicago Man Receives
Suspended Jail Sentence
Wallace H. Rehbein, Chicago,
111., was given a 30-day suspend
ed jail sentence after he pleaded
guilty to unlawfully riding a
train. He appeared in district
court Thursday.
Jackson county sheriff's of
ficers apprehended him when
the train halted in Ashland.

honor of two American airmen
who sacrificed their, lives to save
a group of Japanese farmers.
Villagers took this means Tues
day to thank Lt. Harry Elliott,
of Lakeland, Fla., and Lt. John
Friel, of Grand Junction, Iowa.
The officers were killed last
month when their B-47 crashed
into the dry river bed of the
Iruma river. It was believed they
could have crash-landed safely
in a nearby field,- but they di
verted the plane to avoid hitting
the farmers planting barley.

TRADE PACT OKAYED
Rome ffl Trade exchanges
between Italy and Russia will
total $480 million during the
four-year period, 1958-62, it was
announced officially today. A
Soviet delegation has been ne
gotiating the new trade accord
here for the past several days.
The pact, to be signed in Rome
next week, calls for Italy to ex
port to Russia machinery, tex
tiles and other finished pro
ducts in exchange for unidenti
fied raw materials.
Spokane OP) Thirty aircraft
experts arrived at Fairchild Air
Force Base Saturday to begin
an investigation into the crash
of a B-52 bomber Thursday after
noon in which eight men were
killed.
Head of the investigating
board is Maj. Gen. Joseph D.
Caldara, director of flight safety
research at Norton Air Force
Base in California.
Memorial services for the eight
victims were held at 10 a.m.
Saturday.
