Each player finds a partner, and the couples
face each other, holding hands. At the command
"GO!" from the player who is IT, they begin to
swing in a circle. After a few seconds ITyclls,
"Statues!" The players instantly drop hands
and "freeze" into whatever odd posture they
happen to, fall into. They stand as still as
they can while IT selects the best "statue,"
and this winner becomes the next IT.
Any "statue" that wiggles while the selection
is being made is disqualified. This is
just one version of a favorite old game.

W 7 ake two half shells of an English walnut, as large
as can be held between the brow and cheek. Ask
your older brother or father to take a penknife
and in the middle of each nut make a hole a bit larger than
the pupil of your eye. Cover with a coat of white paint.
Paint in iris of dark green around the pupil-hole, larger
than a real eye. Leave a little white space on each half
nut shell on upper left side (see illustration). Around
the outer edges of the iris paint a thick black line. Paint
irregular dabs of red around the edge of the shells.
Open your eyes and raise your eyebrows high, put in
both shells at once so that they cover each eye with the
two points near the nose. Now go quietly
and just look at your friends!!
