Actor Declared
Real Discovery
For Footlighters
One of the ' real discoveries"
in tryouts for. "The Wooden
Dish", three-act drama to be
presented by Medford Footlight
ers beginning December 10, is
Robbie Robbins, local radio an
nouncer and former drama stu
dent. He plays the itchy-footed,
earthy character, Ed Mason, in
the piece, according to Leslie
Boardman, Footlighter president.
Mr. Robbins, who has been
in Medford less than a year, has
been a radio announcer for six
years, three of them in Hono
lulu, and one-and-a-half in Seat
tle. He attended the University

cific college, taking part in
numerous campus productions.
Another newcomer to Foot-,
lighter production is Mrs. B. A.
Cope, Ashland, cast in the role
of Susan Dennison, 18-year-old
granddaughter in the play. Mrs.
Cope, wife of an Ashland doctor
and mother of three small chil
dren, said she was "flabber
gasted" when she received the
part of such a youthful charac
ter. Fellow actors however, de
scribe her as "very convincing"
in the role.
Mrs. Cope studied drama at
Sullins College in Bristol, Va.
and at the University of Indiana,
taking part in several college as
well as little theater productions.
She is a member of the Tudor
guild, but although she has lived
in Ashland for eight years, has
never tried out for any of the
local theater productions until
now.
Tickets for "The Wooden
Dish" which ; will run for five
nights at the Fairground Theater
beginning Tuesday, December 3,

Hungarian Dancers
Who Appeared Here
Publish New Book
Members of Jackson County
Music association will be espe
cially interested in the book,
"Leap Through the Curtain," re
cently added to the Medford
Public library. Written by Nora
Kovach and Istvan Rabovsky, the
Hungarian artists of the ballet
who performed in Medford under
the auspices of the Association
on November 9, their book tells
the true story of their lives, their
romance, and their escape to
freedom from behind the Iron
Curtain.
This escape was motivated
only by their innate love of lib
erty since, as stars of the ballet,
the authors were actually per
sons of privilege in their own
country, enjoying the life of
luxury that is furnished such
artists in Russia.
The young artists contrast the
styles and training of Russian
and Western ballet and express
their belief that both Russia and
the West have something to
learn from the other in respect
to the art. It is their own purpose
to do all they can to unite the
best they have seen and learned
in their two worlds.
