The Medford Kiwanis club
iponsored a luncheon Wednes
day at the Country club for the
football players. This luncheon
was to include those that earned
their varsity letters. The grid
men were excused after third
period, in order to be at the
Country club by noon.
Back-to-school night was held
Monday, Nov. 25, at MHS. The
Future Teachers of America
Q, club registered some 496, ac
cording to FTA advisor, Mrs.
Maxine Smith. After registering
parents attended a general as-
O sembly in the auditorium, whef?
James Johnston welcomed all of
the parents and introduced the
q members of the faculty who hold
no classes. They were Lester
Harris, principal. Miss Jose
phine Kirtley, vice principal,
and deans Mrs. Grace Berg and
Alex McDonald. After the as
sembly the parents went to 10
minute classes. Following the
class schedules, refreshments
were served in the boys' gym
by memberof the Future Home
makers of America. In the re
maining half hour, parents were
permitted to return to any
teacher to make appointments
for personal counseling con
cerning their child.
Despite the fog, a large num
ber of people turned out to see
the final performance of the mu
sical play "Carousel." The play,
which was previously scheduled
for Nov. 21 and 22, was also pre
sented Tuesday night for those
who had purchased tickets but
were turned away because of a
full house on Thursday and
Friday.
Following a short business
meeting, Maj. Gen. ieph Hicks
from the Jackson County Civil
defensi. spoke to the Future
NursepVif America Tuesday aft
ernoolsn the subject of radio
active fallout. After the meeting
refreshments were served.
The Medford High band and
choir will present a pop concert
Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. in the high
school auditorium. This will be
a benefit radio show produl
by radio station KMED. The ad
mission will be SI per person.

band to San Franciscan

Last Tuesday's International
Relations league meeting took
the form of a sll model Unit
ed Nations assembly. Four
groups representing Syria, Tur
key, Russia and the United
States debated over the prob
lems resulting from the relations
befween these countries. The
session was held for the purpose
of acquainting ZRL members
with UN procedu"s in prepara
tion for the state IRL conven
tion to be held next February.

sations are now about different
subject than they were a month

Democracy" contest. After be

Sharon gave her speech on tele
vision and was chosen the local
winner on the program.

On Saturday night, Nov. 22,
the sophomores sponsored the
annual Sadie Hawkins; dance
which was attended by about
40 couples, none of whom were
recognizably in their unusual
outfits. After a few mixers that
started everyone dancing there
was a contest for the couple with
the best costumes. Mollie Reavis
and Dave Hartley won and re
ceived records as their prizes.
Other prizes were given to Gary
Kirsch, winner of the door prize;
Mike King and Gena Sechler,
whoQlanced the lQt waltz; Den
nie Duggan, who was dancing
with the mystery girl, Mary Cre

Hedrick Junior High

"Turkey Hop" was the theme
for the eighth ade dance held
Nov. 27. The dance, along with
other activities, was held in the
Hedrick gymnasium from 7:30
to 10 p.m. The dance was also a
"sock hop" at which all students
had tIance in their socks.

band afficers have an
nounced Dec.Hi as the date for
their Christmas dance. Besides
recorded music the band will
present its own dance band to
play many popular songs and
others appropriate to the theme.

playoffs of the boy's basketball
intramurals from 1 to 2 p.m.
Wednesday before being dis
missed for Thanksgiving vaca
tion, Thursday and Friday. All
thsee games were played simul
taneously, one on the stage and
two on the main gym floor. The
winners were 8th grade, Mr.
Graves' home room; 9th grade,
Mr. Richardsons' home room;
7th grade the All Star Team.
Several new yellow litter re
ceptacles have been placed at
various points around Hedrick.
The custodians made and paint
ed them and decorated them
with hornet emblems.

High participated in a radio Spro
gvQa recorded at KMED at 3
p.m. Nov. 27. The program con
sisted of interviews portraying
different phases of Mexican life.

Larry Brown, Kathy Henderson,
Sarah Martin, Jerry Jarman,
Ken Wise, and Jim Prake, Miss
