Musical Comedy Seen
As Ambitious Stage
Production at MHS
Medford High school students
and faculty staged a full-scale
musical comedy last night pos
sibly the most ambitious stage
production ever undertaken by
the school, and it came off with
flying colors. Almost a full-house
audience was on hand for the
school's production of "Carousel"
and the applause was warm and
sustained throughout the entire
program.
While not as fast-paced as the
work of professional cast, the
musical proceeded smoothly and
if there were any mishaps, they
went unnoticed by this reviewer.
The music and dances, the voices,
both solo and chorus, the cos
tumes, the sets and lighting, all
are excellent for a student pro
duction and in many cases, much
better than those in the audience
had expected to see and hear.
Rosemary Doolen is a pretty
and sweet-voiced Julie, and John
Frohnmayer a handsome and
dashing Billy Bigelow. These
two, and other students in the
production, bring a freshness and
innocence to the plot and theme
of "Carousel" which is most ap
pealing. Sense of Comedy
Sue Baker played and sang
Carrie Pipperidge with zest and
a true sense of comedy which
her audience found delightful,
and the scene between Miss Bak
er and Ted Lawson as Jigger
Craigin is one of the best in the
production.
The principals had good sup
port from Bob Gee, who played
Enoch Snow, Dee Clark as Mrs.
Mullin, Linda Smith as Nettie
Fowler and David Frohnmayer
as David Bascombe.

bers provided the major musical

ganist, deserve special mention
