Salvation Army
Women's League
Has Guest Dinner
The Ladies' Home league of
the Salvation Army held a din
ner in Junior hall, 236 North
Eartlett street, November 14, to
Introduce the league program to
guests. Each member brought a
guest, ar each was presented
by her hostess of the evening.
Purpose of the dinner .was to in
terest more women in the work
of the league.
Following the dinner Mrs.
William Ricken, wife of the Sal
vation Army captain, introduced
the league secretary, Mrs. C. E.
Naffziger, who conducted a busi
ness meeting. Three members
gave resumes of the league s
work. Mrs. Ricken outlined the
function of the league and told
of the part it plays in the church
program.
She stated hat the aim of the
league is four-fold. It strives to
educate women to be more skill
ful in home management. It en
deavors to promote spiritual ex
perience believing that "if the
beauty of a house is order, the
crown of a house is godliness;" it
endeavors to provide fellowship
at a weekly meeting "which is
more than a happy get-together
but a time when heart can speak
to heart of household chores, of
worries and hopes" and pro
motes a spirit of service because
"no one is more ready than a
woman to show her love by serv
ing others."
Mrs. Dorothy Smith sang, and
Mrs. Ricken conducted devo
tions. T-ater the group was ea
tertained with a series of quizzes,
also conducted by Mrs. Ricken.
The gathering was closed with
song and prayer.
The dinner took the place of
the usual work meeting, held
every Thursday night at Junior
hall with the exception of the
last Thursday night when a fam
ily potluck dinner for members
and guests is held.
