County Employees
Name New Officers
An officers' meeting of the
newly formed Jackson County
Employees association will be
held in the planning commis
sion office in the courthouse at
7:30 p.m. Wednesday, it was an
nounced Friday.
A tentative meeting is sched
uled Dec. 4 in the courthouse
auditorium to ratify the new
organization's constitution and
by-laws, according to Lee Mon
roe, newly elected president.
Monroe, a machinist at the
county shops, was elected presi
dent at a meeting last week.
Jack Eaton, of the planning
commission office was elected
vice president, and Jean Brown
of the county clerk's office, secretary-treasurer.
"Aims of the organization is
to cooperate with the county
court to iron out any employee
difficulties," Monroe empha
sized, and pointed out the asso
ciation was not a union organ
ization. By being organized the county
employees hope to get more in
surance benefits, form a credit
union and establish a coopera
tive buying program.
Tentative schedule for the
meetings is the first Wednesday
each month.

BEAVER DISPLAY
Milwaukee (IP) The Wiscon
sin Conservation Department
had a typical beaver village on
display at the Wisconsin State
Fair. Conservation men went to
northern Wisconsin, trapped the
industrious beaver, built him a
dam and typical beaver house,
and put him on display.
A monk who later became
Pope Sylvester II is credited bv
some historians with inventing
the first truly mechanical,
weight-driven clock in 990 A. D.
An Indian Fakir, who
sleeps in a bed of live
coals, will be featured at
the Safety Fair this week.
This is probably your
last chance to learn how
not to smoke in bed.
