Medford high's football ag
gregation scraps this evening to
spurn the upset ambitions of the
revitalized Ashland Grizzlies. .
The Black Tornado will howl
and the Grizzlies will growl at
8:15 p.m. in the senior high
stadium here. While "the game's
the thing," to paraphrase an
old quotation, activities also
will include Kiwanis Kids night
and a Rogue Valley Bandorama.
Gridiron action will match a
Medford club which has im
proved as the seasonprogressed
and an Ashland club which re
portedly hit its stride with at3
19 to 12 victory over Crater last024
week end.
Comparative scores put Med
ford in the favored role, lhe
Tornado clubbed Crater 40 to 14
On the only games played so far
this falDwith a common rival.
Ti?e Medfordites aim for a third
straight verdict in the Southern
Oregon circuit, desiring a clean
record for a showdown hassle
here next week Ayith. Grants
Pass. Ashland is 1-1 in the
league with a loss on the book
to the Cavemen of GP.
Aerial Threat
Medford will put a miUple
ground attack with plays from
the single wing and T up against
the T of the Ashlanders. The
Grizzles could take to the air
much of the timeonight and,
If they go as expected, will pre
sent a wide open attack. Tor
nado drill has sought to prepare
particularly for the passing
threat. O
Quarterbacks In Coach Al
Simpson's offense are-his two
sons, Pat and Don. Among other
backs the Tornado will be watch
ing are Al South, Jerry Stubble-
field, Al McKinnis and Bill
Maurer. Coach Fred Spiegel
berg's forces include a good
number of runners who coufid
give the Grizzlies a rough eve
ning Johnny Jones, Gerry
Lyons, Skip Bennett, Bob Gee,
v Larry Brown and Ron Reich, for
instance.
Manpower could prove a de
cided asset this evening to the
Medford club. Simpson reported
that most of the playing for
Ashland will be done by 15 or
16 gridders. There's been little
chances for the Grizzlies to dip
deep into their roster of sub
stitutes this fall.
Safe Driving Pledge
Kids night will feature at
tendance at the game of fifth
through ninth graders of the
community who have gained free
admission by obtaining signat
ures of eight adults o a safe
driving pledge. There slips will
be collected at the gate and a
drawing will be held for a bi
cycle from Sims Cycle and
Hobby shop. The students will
sit in a special bleacher section.
Bands and pep fiubs of Ted
ford and Ashland Senior highs
and Hedrick and McLoughlin
Junior highs will participate at
halftone in a salute to Rogue
river valley industry.
Name of the girl chosen Miss
Tornadia will be announced at
halftime. w
