Salt Lake Woman Killed
By Automobile at Madras
Madras (IP) Mrs. Mable
Susie Thomas, about 46, Salt
Lake City, Utah, was killed in

"The monster was the best
friend I ever had. I'd been in
Hollywood for 10 years and no
one had heard of me except my
creditors. Then in 1931 I played
the monster and a career was
born. I'm truly indebted to the
old ghoul.
"I decided never to play an
other Frankenstein role because
ths monster eventually became
nothing more than a comic
prop," he grinned. "The shock
value of his face wore off, and
he became a compassionate char
acter whom people wanted to be
friend. Audiences even became
fond of the old boy."
Karloff hasn't given up scar
ing people. His latest picture,
"Stranglehold," is a shocker
about a Jekyl and Hyde-type
character.
"Horror pictures will always
be with us. They are a type of
folklore," Karloff said.
3-Car Wreck Kills
Longview Woman
Vancouver, Wash. (IP) Mrs.
Mildred L. Ivari, 44, Longview,
died early today from injuries
suffered in a three-car accident
about eight miles north of here
on Highway 99 about 6:55 p.m. '
Tuesday.
Three other persons were in
jured. They are Marjorie Ivari,
17, driver of one of the cars, and
two passengers, Marguerite Tu
chino, 16, and Roy Gilmore, 16,
both of Longview.
The 'State Patrol said drivers
of the other two cars, Arnold
Peterson, 63, Portland, and Dos
sie Duncan, Los Angeles, es
caped injury.
