Southern Oregon conference
has its fullest counting slate of
the season this Friday when
Medford goes to Klamath Falls
and Grants Pass to Ashland. The
visiting teams, playing their sec
ond loop and District 6 A-l
brushers, are the choices to win.
Ashland and Klamath Falls
make their conference bows for
1957.
In the Rogue league, the
southern sector of District 6
A-2, Rogue River travels to
Phoenix and Brookings to Hen
ley for Friday night scraps.
Glendale plays at Henley on
Saturday afternoon. Phoenix
and Glendale head the chase
with three victories each.
Crater of the Southern Ore
gon circuit and Illinois Valley of
the Rogue loop have have a
non-counter skirmish at Cave
Junction on Friday.
Talent at Jacksonville
In District 5 B Talent vies at
Jacksonville on Friday and St.
Mary's at Malin on Saturday.
Other week enders in the B
league are Bonanza vs. Sacred
Heart at Klamath Falls and
Chiloquin at Merrill. Malin,
Merrill and Talent are unmar
red in conference games.
Medford's role of favorite
against the Pels hinges on the
physical status of its squad.
Three players who normally see
quite a bit of duty missed the
Crater game because of illness
and several others who played
were not up to par physically.
The underdog Klamath club
will be fired by the desire to
keep up its jinx against the
Black Tornado. Not since 1945
when the score was 51 to 0 for
Medford, has the Tornado de
feated the Pelicans on Modoc
field in Klamath Falls. Since
that time Klamath on its home
turf has recorded three wins
over Medford, 21 to 6 in 1949,
13 to 12 in 1951 and 26 to 18
in 1953. Two games have been
tied, 0 to 0 in 1947 and 13 to
13 in 1955.
RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE Army back Robert Anderson (21), on his way to the
first touchdown, races between Notre Dame's Richard Royer (84), Robert Scholtz (55)
and Allen Ecuyer (60) in the first quarter at Philadelphia.
RENEWING RIVALRY AFTER 10 years break, Notre Dame's fullback, Nick Pietrosante,
drives across for the first score against Army. He is on top of the pile (with No. 9 of jer
sey showing). Notre Dame won the game in an uphill last quarter fight. (International)

Jackson, newly-elected presi

call off the scheduled fight be
tween Tony DeMarco and Vir

a championship bout.
"It's out of order," fired
Jackson in a blistering letter to
Harry Lamar Monday that lab

contention that the Oct. 29 fight
will be for the vacated welter
weight title.
"This is an utter, absolute vio
lation of NBA rules," said Jack

be strictly a local promotion to
shoo-in DeMarco as champion."
The fight is scheduled for Bos

Jackson said the NBA Execu

to the problem have been sug
