Scottish Rite Club
To Meet Monday
Scottish Rite Women's club
will meet Monday, October 14,
at 8 p.m. in the Masonic temple,
for a business session. Cards will
be played after the meeting.
Hostesses for the evening will
be Mrs. Leonard C. Scott. Cen
tral Point. Mrs. Orville Hamil
ton, Mrs. Edwin H. Taylor and
Mrs. Cecil Carter.
Scottish Rite Masons will have
a stated meeting in the Lodge of
Perfection, and a stated meeting
in the Chapter of Rose Croix.
Later, Lloyd E. Hamlin and
cast will confer the sixteenth de
gree of Scottish Rite Freemason
ry on a class of candidates.
After this ceremony, the men
will join the women for a coffee
hour.
A welcome is extended to all
Scottish Rite Masons' wives,
widows, mothers, daughters and
sisters.

Newlyweds
To Return
Here Today
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Star
Gardiner Jr., are expected to
return today from a week's trip
to northern California and will
make their home on Old Mili
tary road. Before her wedding
on Sunday, October 6, the bride
was Marina Starfas Gates,
daughter of Mrs. Harriett Starf
as, Ventura, Calif. The bride
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Grover V. Love, Millbrae,
Calif.
The nuptial rites were read
in the wedding chapel of First
Presbyterian church, Burlin
game, Calif., by the Rev. Dr.
George T. Peters, pastor, at 1
o'clock. Only members of the
immediate families attended.
The bride wore a sheath dress
of pink-beige lace with match
ing jacket trimmed with silk
organdy and satin, and a small
matching satin hat. Her shoes
were of the pink-beige lace over
matching satin. She carried a
bouquet of green cymbidium
orchids on a small white Bible.
Mrs. Tommy S. Starfas, Port
land, sister-in-law of the bride,
was her only attendant. She
wore a sheath dress of emerald
green silk faille, and her hat
was a honeybear brown feather
cloche. She carried a bouquet
of brown cymbidium orchids.
Lt. Col. W. Douglas Gardiner,
U.S.A., presently s'tationed in
Okinawa but in the bay area
on temporary duty, served as
his brother's best man.
A luncheon for the wedding
party and the wedding guests
was held at Benjamin Franklin
hotel, San Mateo, following the
service. A tiered wedding cake
with pink frosting and topped
with pink bells centered the
luncheon table.
Guests included the bride's
mother, Mrs. Starfas, and her
brother, Tommy S. Starfas; Mr.
and Mrs. Love, parents of the
bridegroom; Mrs. Hilda Mc-
Curdy, Burlingame, Mrs. Faye
Davies, San Francisco, and Mr.
and Mrs. Adrian van Hoften,
Burlingame, cousins of the
bridegroom, and Dr. and Mrs.
Peters.

Of Interest Here
From Montana comes news of
the marriage of Mrs. Ora B.
Rusk, formerly of Medford, to
James O. Alcorn. The ceremony
was held August 18 in Trinity
Lutheran church, Sidney, Mont.,
with the Rev. John W. Chamb
ers officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bertino,
Culbertson, Mont., sister and
brother-in-law of the bride, at
tended the couple.
The bride wore a light blue
taffeta and lace dress with rose
bud corsage and flowered hat.
Mrs. Bertino wore a frock of
light amber color with corsage
of pink roses. A wedding supper
was served in the Lalonde hotel
in Sidney, Mont.
The newlyweds are living in
Homestead, Mont., where Mr.
Alcorn is employed by the Great
Northern railway as depot agent.
Mrs. Alcorn, who attended East
er Montana College of Educa
tion during the summer, is on
the staff of Soo school in the
Poplar school system.
During the time she lived in
Medford the bride was active in
the congregation of Zion Luth
eran church.
Citizens Urged to Contribute
Clothing For Overseas Drive
iBridegroom-To-Be Honored at Party
Citizens of Rogue Valley were
urged Saturday to assist in the
clothing drive for overseas. Con
tributions of warm clothing and
low heeled shoes as well as
blankets and baby clothes are
to be included in articles
needed.
Medford Ministerial associa
tion, Medford Council of Church
Women, Medford chapter, Ore
gon United Nations, Association,
and other groups are active in
the drive.
Stations for receiving the
donations are established at the
First Presbyterian church. First
Methodist church and St. Mark's
Episcopal church. It is requested
that clothing be packed in card
board boxes and tied ready for
pickup Monday, October 14,
at which time a van will arrive
from Modesto to transport the
clothing to the port for overseas
shipping.
Since all articles are pro
cessed and baled at Modesto it is
not necessary that they be
cleaned or pressed before send
ing, states the Rev. Escil Heiser,
who is the key person on drive

bachelor (but not for long) in
arrangements.
Last year a full van load left
Medford for the Modesto pro
cessing plant, states Mrs. J. C.
Sparks, who was in charge of
arrangements last fall. It is
hoped to make as large a con
tribution again this fall. Those
having warm articles left from
rummage sales are asked to con
tribute them.
Theme for the drive "is "As
ye have done it unto the least
of these" and officials hope this
will spur citizens to generous
giving.

shower given by his fellow
Kerby teachers Monday after
noon. Wesley Clark, whose marriage
to Miss Shirley Brewer of Selma
will be a November event, was
showered with skillets, pots and
pans, towels, casseroles, and a
rolling pin for the bride at a
hilarious party which took place
after school hours in the Kerby
cafeteria.
A concealed tape recorder
operated by Don Orton played
back the gift-opening comments.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Theresia Marchant.

tives attended a family dinner
