The "Teaching Deans" came to the Rogue valley from Nampa, Ida., this fall and all four are teaching in valley
schools. John Dean, (center right) teaches fifth and sixth grade at Sams Valley school; his wife, Myrna, is on the
faculty of Jackson school as teacher of the second grades at Sams Valley school; his wife, Myrna, is on the
coach at McLoughlin Junior High school and his wife, Janette, teaches fourth and fifth grades at West Side school.
The John Deans have four other sons, Milton, at Oregon State college on a teaching fellowship; Jay, attending
University 'of Oregon Dental college, and twins, Lowell and Calvin, sophomores in Medford High school. Their
daughters are Mrs. Wayne Johnson, Laguna Beach, Calif., and Myrna Loa, sophomore at Northwest Nazarene
college, Nampa.
Mrs. Richard J. House Is the new secretary of Rogue Valley Knife and Fork club and last week was making prepa
rations for the first fall meeting of the club. The House's younger son, Dennis, 5, will help his mother by stuffing
envelopes when it is time to mail meeting notices. The Houses have two older children, a son with the Irish name
of Creigh, who is 7, and a daughter, Susan, 12. When Knife and Fork club members receive their meeting notices
they will announce a talk by Aly Wassil, Pakistanian who attended Harvard university and other schools in this
country, and who has appeared on radio and television programs as well as. lecturing. He speaks here
Wednesday, October 16. The club schedule this year is for midweek rather, than Monday meetings.

Robert Rudie, violinist, is conductor-soloist for the
Rudie Sinfonietta which will be one of the attractions
offered for the 1957-58 season of Jackson County
Civic Music association. The annual membership
campaign of the association opens Monday and con
tinues through October 12. Only members may attend
Civic Music association concerts.
Cynthia Otis, youthful and talented harpist, is one
of the soloists with the Rudie Sinfonietta which Jack
son County Civic Music association has signed for
the 1957-58 season. The Sinfonietta is composed of
11 instrumentalists and three soloists; conductor and
violin soloist is Robert Rudie, who has played at the
Casals and Aspen festivals.

men of the all-Oregon U.S. Navy company, home on leave after completing "boot camp" training. Among those

Young Tycksen will go on to airman school, Norman, Okla.; Robert Martin, to aviation electronics school at Mem

Mrs E. J. DeVoe, chairman, (at left) and Mrs. Joe Hearin, assistant chairman of the home crusade division of
the United Medford Crusade, are busy planning for their part of the crusade which will begin soon. Mrs. DeVoe
and Mrs. Hearin are recruiting 300 women volunteers to make calls in the residential section of the city. They
have named seven "colonels", Mrs. Otto Frohnmayer, Mrs. Tom G. Polk, Mrs. R. E. Heysell, Mrs. Verle G. Walker,
Mrs. John B. Lynch, Mrs. Ralph Matthews and Mrs. J. J. Finegan. The colonels will appoint captains for each of
their sections, of which there are 35. A home crusade kick-off meeting will be held at the Red Cross building
October 29 at 10 a.m., and solicitation will begin November 4.
