Many people ask, how can you
tell when you have a tapeworm?
The answer is that if you have
any reason to
fear you may
have one, you
should watch
your stools. If
you see in the
toilet bowl
little white seg
ments that
look like a
slice off of a
Alvarez noodle; and if
these things move a bit in the
water, you will probably have a
tapeworm. You can be sure of
this when a whole string of these
segments comes away, usually
with a spell of diarrhea.
Round worms sometimes come
away in the stool, and on rare
occasions they can be vomited.
So far as I know, there are no
definite symptoms of indigestion
or abdominal discomfort by
which the presence of worms can
be recognized. Children are sup
posed to get nervous and irri
table and jumpy. Children of
Caucasians living in the tropics
are usually "de-wormed" from
time to time. Because the cysts
of taDeworms are in the muscles
of cattle and hogs the forms are
likely to appear in the bowels of
peonle who like to eat poorly
cooked meat or pork. A rare

trail.
Not Backing Down
"If ever a guy was caught in a
cross-fire, it's me," Garner says.
"There are 32 Westerns on TV
this year, and I had to tangle
with those three characters. But
I'm not backing down to 'em."
In true western style, under
dog Garner figures he can "shup"
the enemy if tie gets an even
draw.
"People are going to tune into
'Maverick Sunday nights to see
who's bucking those powerful
programs," he explained during
lunch. "And once they look in
I think I can hold 'em.
"The first half -hour of the
show is opposite Benny, on the
last half we're up against Allen
and Sullivan. No other program
can make that statement Come
to think of it, who'd want to
make it?"
Garner claims his offering is
an "adult" horse opera based on
a gambler who meanders around
the wide-open spaces exposing
crooked dealers and other cheats.
Can Handle Gun
"I make no claim to being the
fastest gun in the W e s t," he
grinned, "but if I'm forced to un
limber my six-gun I can handle
myself all right."
A 29-ye'ar-old all-American boy
type. Gainer stands 6 feet 3
inches tall and weighs 200
pounds. He was raised in Okla
homa and lays claim to being
part Cherokee Indian.
"Almost everybody back home
claims to be part Indian," he
said.

Warts
According to a recent article,
warts can be removed in any one
of several ways. Today, there is
a tendency to avoid the use of
x-rays, especially in the cases of
young people. The doctor can in
ject a drop of procaine under the
wart and then destroy it with
the hot sparks that come from a
special machine. Some men in
ject a drop of a 5 per cent solu
tion of sodium morrhuate into
the base of the wart. Others first
inject a local anesthetic and then
excise the wart with a knife
They must be careful not to get
a scar that will be tight. Others
first apply a plaster of 40 per
cent salicylic acid which softens
the hard part of the wart. Then
they apply a pencil of dry ice.
Warts on the bottom of the
foot can be treated in these same
ways. Some men claim that if
one will just inject a few drops
of procaine solution into the base
of the wart it is likely later to
drop off.
As all students of medical folk
lore know, most old people could
tell us how to charm off warts.
One of the commonest methods
is to rub the warts with soome
bacon and then, at night, to bury
the bacon at a cross-roads. Tom
Sawyer and Huck Finn once ex
perimented with this technic.
