Theresa S. Kenny's father

wrong with that man.
.Theresa S. I am 16 and I
have a boy friend a year older
Our problem is Kenny's father,
who is much too strict with
him. My own parents like Ken
ny and have no objection to my
going with him, but ; Kenny's
father doesn't think he ought
to be going steady at all.
Kenny and I go out once or,
at most, twice a week. We like
to talk on the telephone every
day, but he has to sneak out
to call me. We always come
home at a reasonable hour and
we aren't wild like some kids.
We are both planning to go to
college, so we don't talk about
engagement or marriage.
Just the same, Kenny's father
seems to think that he's gofng
to get ideas about marriage if
he keeps seeing me. When we
go out, he calls my home
sometimes twice in an evening
to see if we are back yet.
How can we make him trust
Kenny? '
Mrs. R. S. I would' like
to talk to Kennny'e father to
straighten him out a bit, but
' my husband says it wouldn't
be a good idea for me to "mix
in." I don't see how my talking
to him can be considered inter
ference. After all, I am just as
concerned about my daughter
as he is about his son.
1 1 feel there is really some
thing with this man, psychologi
cally. Surely he wants his boy
to enjoy a normal life for a 17-year-old.
The kids are as nice
and well-behaved together as
anyone could possibly ask. Ken
ny is a lovely boy and we don't
worry about Terry when. she is
out with him.
My husband says it would
look as though we are pushing
the kids together if 1 spoke up
for them. Nothing could be
further from my mincL

be interpreted as an attempt to
"push the kids together."
Mrs. R. S. is wrong to assume
there is "something wrong"
with Kenny's father and that
he needs to be "straightened
out." The mere fact that he has
raised such a . fine young man
is an indication " that he knows
how to do a good job as a father.
Because of his deeper knowl
edge of Kenny or because of
some personal or family experi
ence, he may have very good
reason to oppose the boy's
steady dating. He has as much
right to his position as Mrs. R.
S. has to hers.' If he is wrong,
or if his attitudes need to be
modified, the problem should
be wrestled out within his own
family circle.
Mrs. R.- S. would do better
to encourage her daughter to
date other boys. It is understand
able that she likes Terry to date
a boy she already knows and ap
proves, but it is highly probable
Terry will find other nice boys.

can Veterans will be held Fri
day and Saturday, Pat Graham,
service officer for the organiza
tion, announced.
Headquarters for the sale will

urged DAV and auxiliary mem
bers to participate in the sale.
There are no big barns or silos

the livestock stays outdoors all

Held for Ira Jones
Private funeral services for
Ira C. Jones, 97, of 2325 Stew
art ave., Medford, who died last
Thursday, were held at 10 a.m
today at Conger-Morris Funeral
home.
The Rev. George Roseberry of
the First Methodist church of
ficiated, and committal was in
Medford Mausoleum.
Mr Jones, who was born Nov
4, 1859, in Dakota county, Minn
had lived in Medford for 20
years. He was married Nov. 4
1881, in Minneapolis, Minn., to
Mary Post, who died two years
ago soon after their 74th wed
ding anniversary.
He was a member of ihe Ma
sonic lodge in Minot, N.D., was
a Rotarian, and a supporter of
the Methodist church. Until re
cently he was active in work on
his hobby, ceramics.
Although wholly within the
tropics, Peru has three distinct
climate zones, caused by the in
fluence of latitude, height above
sea level, prevailing winds and
ocean currents.
