A prevalent weakness among
women is to forget to yut dates
on letters. So I note it claimed.
I haven't noticed that. However,
communications is a postscript.
It was Richard Steele who said.
"A women seldom writes her
mind but in her postscript."
Asking
Queries from clients. Q. What
was the first college football
team to number its players for
program identification? A.
Washington and Jefferson. Near
ly fifty years ago. To be exact,
in the season 1908. Q. I claim
the fastest regularly scheduled
tran of the British Railways is
the "Flying Scot" between Lon-.
don and Edinburgh. Right? A.
You lose. It is the "Caledonian"
between London and Glasgow.
The Caledonian makes the 401
mile trip between those cities in
six hours and 40 minutes. Q.
After a date a man sent me
flowers the next morning. It
was a bunch of daisies. What
does that mean in the language
of flowers? A According to the
best authorities on the subject1
it means "I won't tell."

models get the equivalent of S20

season often work 14 hours a
day.
Nurses
The acute shortage of regis
tered nurses continues to be a
major hospital problem in this
country. In New York City reg
istered nurses are paidj from
S320 a month to S400 a month.
Considering the training a reg
istered nurse has to have that
doesn't seem enough. Should be
at least $150 a week. Until it
approaches that figure the dif
ficulty in Interesting Intelligent
and capable young women in
a nursing career will probably
continue.
Mothers and Sons
A mother who is taller than
her dult son is a rarity. Even
most jockeys are taller than
their mothers. Also, an amazing
number of petite mothers have
sons who approach gigantic pro
portions. I have heard of a moth
er who has four sons whose
heights are seven feet, six feet,
ten inches, six feet, nine inches,
and six feet, five inches. She is
five feet, four inches in height.
Travel Note
A New Yorker just back from
Las Vegas, Nev., says the thing
to do there is to see the "fabu
lous" night club shows staged
at the luxury hotels on the strip
and do your gambling down
town where thg house percent
ages are lower and the jack
pots bigger.
rTumerologr
Having or Inserting a "y" In
your first name increase your
chance of success. So a numer
ologist claims. I have heard the
same thing about the letter "h."
Anyway, it is the policy of this
department to check all claims.
I note that four of six top candi
dates for a current title contest
have "y" in their first names.
They are: Cathy, Madelyn, Mar
ilyn and Carolyn. As for other
successful females so named, I
haven't checked extensively.
Still there is Jayne Mansfield.
Perhaps if you have a daughter
named Irene she should change
it to Iryne.
Horses and Women
A recent survey has revealed
that the measurements of the
average British young voman
in the 18 to 29 age group are
Bust, 35; Waist, 25; Hips, 374
(35-25-37V4). Marilyn Jionroe's
measurements are Bust, ' 38 V,
Waist, 23; Hips, 38, (38V4-23-38).
Incidentally, the British survey
as' to the average female meas
urement in different age groups
was made so women could find
better fitting and a wider var
iety in style of ready to wearr
clothing available at establish
ments specializing in that type
of attire.
Speed
A feminine cinema celebrity
is reported to have just acquired
a sports car that has a speed
of 135 miles an hour. Cars with
speed, power like that should be
barred from the highways. In
fact, I believe all cars traveling
on public highways should have
speed regulators. Perhaps to
limit them to 60. miles an hour.
Maybe 70. But no more. Auto
ists who want to drive at over
that should do their driving on
automobile race tracks.

How Hell Do YOU Know Jackson County and Its People
sater This Mail Tribune PIH10T QUIZ
Harold M. She lied to me!
Loons M. He only finds fault
with me!
Harold M. I was a bachelor
until I was 45. Then I made my
big mistake. I got married.
I was beginning to get tired
of either running around or be
ing alone, so I joined on! of
those lonely hearts clubs and
started writing to a woman In
another city. She said she was
a widow of 43. She sent me her
picture and she looked very at
tractive. I went down to see her
and we liked each other right
away. We got married and mov
ed up to where I was living.
Well, I pretty soon discovered
that she wasn't 43, but nearly
50. She said she had no chil
dren, but she's got a son in
jail. She takes money out of the
. household expenses and sends
It to him. She's a very sloppy
housekeeper. She says if I don't
like it we should just split up,
but I don't feel like being alone
again.
Leona M. I may be nearly
50, but I'm younger than Harold
in spirit and appearance. I don't
like to go brooding all the time
the way he does. I like to go out
for good times and enjoy life.
He doesn't seem to know how to
enjoy himself.
I never told him that I didn't
have children. I just didn't
mention abou my son because
it breaks my heart to talk about
him. He isn't really a criminal,
but got into trouble because of
a bad crowd he got in with.
The money I send him is really
my own, left to me, by my first
husband.
From the minute we were
married. Hat-old has done noth
ing but find fault with me. But
If I threaten to go away, he
apologizes and becomes sweet
as honey. I know he can be
nice if he wants to, but he just
seems to want to always criti
cize. I would try to make him
happy if I just had a chance.
The Council: Harold ant
Leona really went out of their
way to make trouble for the- j
selves when they entered a re
lationship through correspond
ence. Single persons of any age !
friends, church and civic organ-
izations, neighborhood social
groups that there is really no
necessity to make blind stabs
at friendship through corre
spondence. In spite of themselves, how
ever, Harold and Leona prob
ably have not made a serious
mistake in their marriage. They
. both seem to see some advant
age in being together. They
really want the companionship
of marriage.
Harold sould realize that he
has not been gravely decieved
' although he might have been.
Even a woman he met through
close friends could have told
that little white lie about her
age. As for the son in jail, Har
old should recognize that when
he agreed to marry Leona, he in
effect agreed to share her burd
ens and problems. He owes his
wife smypathy and comfort, not
recriminations on this score.
If they had met under better
circumstances, Hircld and Le
ona would have known one an
other more thoroughly before
marriage and they would be
better prepared to accept one
anotther's faults. Perhaps be
cause of his long bacherlorhood
Harold does not realize that he
can't expect perfection in any
one. He has found a wife, not
an angel in a dream, and he
should be glad of it. -
