dent Eisenhower a bill by Sen.
Richard L. Neuberger (D-Ore.)
to authorize transfer of the Mo
Nary dam townsite property, In
cluding project buildings, to an
Indian tribe for use in establish
ing new industry.
Neuberger said that under the
law, title to the property would
pass to the tribe after it has
executed a contract with an in
dustrial enterprise providing em
ployment for a reasonable num
ber of Indians. At the end of the
contract period, industry would
have option to buy the property
at appraised value.
The Oregon senator said sev
eral industries have indicated
interest in using some of the
surplus buildings and that "it is
my hope that a Senate approval
will clear the way for additional
job opportunities in -Umatilla
county and stimulate industrial
growth."
