Heavyweight
Bout Called
Worst Thing
By DAN HANLLEY JR.
Milwaukee, Wis. IOT
Former heavyweight champion
Joe Louis said today the "worst
thing ever to happen to boxing"
will be the Aug. 22 meeting be
tween heavyweight title-holder
Floyd Patterson and Olympic
king Pete Rademacher for the
"championship of the world."
Louis, who holds a place in
the boxing "hall of fame," said
the bout "is the worst mismatch
in boxing history," out-doing
Patterson's first title defense
against Hurrican Jackson "for
bad matching."
Louis, who was the most vic
torious heavyweight title de
fender in history, said Patterson
was bringing "shame to his
crown" by agreeing to .fight the
28-year-old Rademacher, who'll
be making his professional debut
at Seattle.
Never Would Do It
"I would never have done a
think like that," said the Brown
Bomber of the 1940's, "and
neither would any other cham
pion in boxing."
"The National Boxing associa
tion should withdraw its recogni
tion of the Washington state box
ing commission," said Louis,
who is here to plug Mercury rec
ords. "The NBA will be a sorry
body cf men if they recbgnize
that fight."
Fred Saddy, chairman of the
NBA's rating committee, said
the association has "no right to
interfere with Washington's
state autonomy" in this matter.
"Besides." said Saddy. "if
Rademacher would accidentally
win. and it would have to be by
accident as far as I can see, the
NBA would look foolish by con
demning Washington's boxing
commission."

the year and third in four days.
Kaline and Skizas homered
again in the nightcap, and Vic
Power also hit a homer.
Lew Burdette batted in four
runs with two home runs to
help the Braves gain their 12th
victory in 14 meetings with the
Redlegs this year. Both of Bur
dette's homers came off loser
Joe Nuxhall, the second homer
coming with two men on in the
sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie.
Red Schoendienst and George
Crowe also hit homers.

six innings to beat the Dodgers
for the third time this season
and score his 13th victory of
the campaign. The Giants
