Chamber of Commerce Program
Satisfaction with the modern
ized program of the Jackson
i County Cr&mber of Ccfcmferce
t has jjeen expressed by local
j businessmen in letters to the
chamber.
Excerpts . from the letters in
t dicate a wide variety of reasons
J 'or continued support of cham
ber actJiiities, according to Mil
ler Juggins, cumber president
and chaimn of ie current
membership campaign.
Ke quoted0 one letter saying
"We take considerable pride iS
the fact that through member
ship in the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce we have
shared in many progressive de
velopments during the past few
years."
Highway Impreremenis
"Through - our cooperative
support with other community
leaders we have helped to launch
Highway 99 improvements, a
new armory, iw wholesale
warehouses, a new hospital, a
wood waste study and many
more.
"We have faith in the future
of Jackson county, and are will
ing to back that faith by our con-4
tinued investment in try Cham
ber program." '
Another suggests '. . . "In our
own case the answer is quite
simple. As a business firm we
feel that membership o in the
Chamber is one important0 way
in which we can discharge our
obligation to Medford and Jack
son county. Our cooperative ef
fort along with that of other
'irms ii the area has had an im
portant part, we feel, in build
ing a better community and a
better business climate."
Not All Agre.
There are times when some
disagreement occurs regarding
a specific point or method of ap
proach in solving community
problems. As one business firm
puts it . . . "While we may not
always be in complete agree
ment with a few of the things
done by the Chamber of Com
merce, we wish to congratulate
the organization and actively
served on its committees
'As a business 'firm we are
glad to cooperate with others to-
ward building a better Jackson
county."
Lory Range View
Still another firm stresses fa
vor toward the long range activi
ties of the organization by say
ing . . . "Congratulations to the
Chamber for the successful ef
forts to get a start on the new
route to Klamath Falls. This is,
in our opinion, one of many im
portant projects on the program."
Grange Notes
Roxy Ann Gnnge
The Eoxv" Ann Grange held
its regular meeting, Aug. 2, with
. . . -j;
master ai aims presiding, ima.
C. M. Lemacks was installed as
treasurer.
Chaplain Mrs. Paul Dalton
and Ceres Mrs. Jack Burns
draped the charter in respect of
Brother Burle Griffin, who died
last ifceek. Word also was re
ceived of the death of Mrs. .Rob
ert Warren who had been a'
member of the Roxy Ann Grange
before transferring to the Cen
tral Point Grange.
Mrs. Evely Hendricks was
given the third and fourth de
grees and was welcomed into
the Grange.
It was decided the Grange
would hold their annual picnic
Aug. 18 at noon at McKee bridge
with fried chicken to be the main
dish.
. The Grange voted to sertd tele
grams to Representatives Charles
Porter and Wayne Morse in the
disapproval of the government
taking over the Grange building
inWashington, D. C. Also peti
tions were passed around to be
signed for the repeal of the
school consolidation law..
Lecturer's program was after
Grange with members telling of
their vacations of the year and
Lecturer Frances Moffat and
Roscoe Roberts put on a skit.
Refreshments were served by
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Foresee, Mr.
and Mrs. P. Rushton and Mr. and
Mrs. R. Rushton
"Our membership in the Jack
son County Chamber of Com
merce is one of the most import
ant ways in which we express
confidence that the long range
goals set forth in the program
will eventually be reached."
"The effectiveness of chamber
activities through organized
committee structure is doing a
job which none of us would dare
attempt singly."
Leadership Sk'll
, Another firm justifies its
membership in the Chamber of
Commerce by pointing out that
"as a single firm we could not
afford to hire the business lead
ership voluntarily devoted to
community problems through
the Chamber of Commerce.
"For this reason alone, we be
lieve our membership is worth
every' dime we put into the or
ganization and more "
One firm belongs because It
recognizes the Chamber of Com
merce as the only organization
in the county whose efforts are
devoted to the specialized field.
According to its letter, "Only as
Medford and Jackson, county
continue to prosper can we ex
pect our business to grow. We
therefore look upon our con
tinued affiliation with the Cham
ber of Commerce as a major
activity toward broadening the
economic base of Jackson
county."
"It is the only organization in
the area whose efforts are de
voted to strengthening the econ
omy. We regard our own mem
bership as one of the best means
of protecting our investment and
at the same time helping to build
a better community."
"People have many different
reasons for supporting similar
causes or goals," according to
Huggins.
"Whatever the reason for
joining the Chamber o Com
merce we are impressed by the
fact that there are so many with
vision enough to pool their funds
and cooperative efforts toward
specific long range projects
which will result in a better
business climate and a better
Jackson county."
