New Teeth For Old
I was just reading a second
edition of a delightful little book
by Dr. Victor H. Sears, formerly
a professor of dentistry. It is
called "New Teeth for Oldf"
(Mosby, St. Louis). Those per
sons who are now facing the
loss of their teeth, and the day
when they have to wear dent
ures, will find in this book the
answer toall their questions. As
Dr. Sears says, there is a great
deal of psychology in getting
dentures and becoming used to
wearing them. So many neurotic
and hypersensitive people drive
their dentists nearly crazy, be
cause they are so fussy or easily
distressed. I can often guess that
a certain type of fussy woman
about 50 has In her handbag
three or four sets of dentures,
none of which she wears. Be
cause she thought she was al
lergic to the plastic base, she
finally had one very expensive
set made of some metal, but
that one bothers her as much
as the cheaper ones did.
Oftentimes the woman who
can't wear dentures tells me that
she always gagged so easily that
she seldom could, brush her
teeth. She may also be unable
even to try to use bifocal glasses.
Whenever I see a woman like
this in my office, I advise strong
ly against the extraction of all
her remaining teeth I am so
sure she'll regret it.

Highway 99 Paving
In Ashland Starts
Ashland J. C. Compton
company, contractors, are pav
ing the 1.1 mile four-lane strip
of Highway 99 just north of
Ashland.
Paving began Monday and
will be finished in about 10
days, the state highway depart
ment office here has reported.
Asphaltic concrete is being
placed on the highway, known
as the Ashland undercrossing,
Helman st. section.
Compton company is under
contract to the state highway
department. The work is com
bined with a federal aid pro
ject. .

An apparent low bid of $42,
455 was submitted by A. F. Fitz
gerald, Klamath Falls, for con
struction of two rangen stations
ai. Butte Falls and Fort Klamath
in the Rogue River National
forest.
Bids were opened in the Port
land office yesterday.
Medford contractors bidding
on the Butte Falls project only
were Don L. Jacobs company,
23,060, and T. R. Florey, $26,
