New control panels on laun
ry equipment will puzzle the
homemaker only for a short
time, said Miss Rose White of
the Corn Products Refining Co.
The panels resemble the dash
boards of automobiles, she said.
But added automation will pro
vide cold water washes and
rinses, slower speed, shorter
washing and spinning periods,
slower tumbling in the dryer,
and cold air tumbling.
She said automatic dispensers
for laundry products are in
cluded in the equipment, and
the new cleaners include fabric
softeners, liquid detergents, cold
water soaps, low and high suds
ing detergents, more foolproof
chlorine bleaches, and starches
that are ready instantly.
Completely immersible elec
tric appliances are a boon to
momemakers. Miss Virginia
Thabet, associate equipment
editor of the American Home
magazine, said electrical con
nections of immersible appli
ances are confined to cords that
plug in, so the appliance may
be immersed in water for easier
cleaning.
More kitchen appliances are
being made to take on multi
purpose duties, she added. One
is the mixer with knife sharpen
ing and ice crushing attach
ments. Some appliances have
one master control with panels
that require 220-volt installa
tion, but convert to 110-voIt cir
cuits. The homemaker can use
several appliances at one time
without overload.
Upside down refrigerators are
a new trend, said Miss Jane Cor
nish of Good Housekeeping
magazine. Top models now. fea
ture ice makers and ejectors,
big crispers, rolling or revolving
shelves, deeper door shelves,
and all kinds of special com
partments. The freezing com
partments are on the botton, and
have package dispensers and
pull-out bins or shelves.

Schmidt-Hacker Wedding Held
In Pilgrim Holiness Church
Miss Caroline Rose Schmidt
became the bride of Clifford
i Eugene Hacker in a ceremony
: held Sunday, June 30, at two
j o'clock in the afternoon at the
; Pilgrim Holiness cnurch in Cen
tral Point. The Rev. William S.
I Deal, district superintendent of
j Pilgrim Holiness church, from
j Salem, officiated at the cere
i mony attended by 100 relatives
I an', friends.
1 The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter C. Schmidt,
i 2477 Biddle road, Medford. The
bridegroom is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas B. Hacker of Co
rona, Calif.
White lilies, pink gladiolus,
and white daisies decorated the
church for the ceremony. Mrs.
Deal was soloist while Mrs. John
Schrivner played the tradition
j al wedding music.
I The bride, given in marriage
; by Mrs. Schmidt, wore a white
brocaded lace over taffeta frock
in ballerina length. Her finger
I tip length veil was held by a
1 tiara of orange blossoms and she
carried a white orchid on a
I white Bible.
I Miss Elaine Cox attended the
I bride. She wore a pink em
bossed taffeta frock and car
ried white daisies. Flower girls
were Pamela Hayes and La
Donna Lull. They wore identical
dresses in aquamarine nylon.
Candlelighters were Glenda and
Iris Alexander.
Edwin J. Hayes served as best
man and Carl Alexander and
Oscar Willard seated the guests.
Following the ceremony a lawn
reception was held at the church.
Mrs. Eiwin Hayes cut and serv
ed the cake and Miss Betty Wil
son and Mrs. R. G. Lull served.
The newlywed couple will
make their home at 2414 Swing
drive, El Monte, Calif., after
July 14 when they return from
a wedding trip to Glacier Na
tional Park. For her traveling
attire the bride wore a navy
blue suit. i
The bride is a graduate of
Medford High school and the
bridegroom attended Corona
High school. They are now at
tending college at Western Pil
grim college in El Monte.
Garnish a pumpkin chiffon
pie in a crumb crust with a
circle of whipped cream and
sprinkle generously with toasted
almond slivers.
