Dawkinsfo Promote
Centennial Event
William Dawkins and Associ
ates, Medford public relations
firm, has been named to direct
public relations and promotion
for the Oregon Centennial Expo
sition and International Trade
Fair.
The Exposition, climax of the
Centennial celebration, begins
in Portland June 1, 1959, and
is tentatively scheduled to run
for four months.
The appointment was one of
two announced by the Center
nial commission at a meeting in
Portland Friday. At the same
time, Floyd Maxwell, executive
secretary for the commission for
the past two years, was named
executive director for the cele
bration.
Dawkins. who now maintains
offices in Medford and Salem,
said that an office would be
opened in Portland immediately
to service the new account. Ad
ditions to his staff will be an
nounced in the near future, he
said.

WSCS Picnic Scheduled

Cave Junction Mrs. John
Smith gave a program on "Broth
erhood," at the Women's Society
of Christian Service meeting
Monday evening at Immanuel
Methodist church. A film "Re
turn by Sea," was also shown.
July 21 is the date set for the
WSCS picnic at Grayback, to
which all members, their fami
lies and friends, are invited.
The club will furnish ice cream,
coffee and cold drinks.
Plans for a rummage sale, to
be held later in the summer,
were made.
Among the guests at the Lee
Phillips home this week are
their son and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Leland D. Phillips of Chey
enne, Wyo.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bert
Scott over the July 4th holidays
were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Cooper, their daughter and son-in-law,
from Brookings, and Mr.
and Mrs. Lee Scott, their son
and family, from Sacramento,
Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haslock
are back from a trip to Detroit,
Mich., where they visited his
brother, Cecil, and family.
Here for a two-week's vaca
tion are Mrs. Douglas Hanby's
brother and family, Mr. and
Mrs. James King and sons John
and Jim. of Seal Beach, Calif.
The family arrived last Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamil
ton returned Wednesday from
the family's mountain cabin at
Calice, where they had spent
the week end.
Mr. and Mrs. James Martin of
Cincinnati, Ohio, arrived by
plane this week to attend the
funeral of Martin's father, Mr.
George P. Martin Sr., held Tues
day at Rogue River.

brothers, George and Robert in
the Illinois Valley, Harold at
Grants Pass and Edward at

Mr. Martin Sr. was stricken
with a heart attack at the home
of Robert Martin where he was

was in the hospital at Medford.
He had been a resident of Rogue
River for some 40 years, but in
recent years had spent the win
ter months in Arizona.
Richard Buckendahl, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Bucken
dahl is at Ft. Ord, Calif., where
he is taking his six months Re
serve training.

(Buck) Campbell were his moth

hnshand. Mr. and Mrs. Verle Os
born, a brother, Donald Camp-

homes in St. Louis, Mo., Mon

staying with her in Cave Junc

the fatal logging accident reach-

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Boyd of
the Westside road, and Mr. and
Mrs. N. E. Wilber, of Yamhill,
and families, camped at Sailor's
Gulch over the July 4 holidays.

liam Baskin home in Four Cor-
nprs are Mr. and Mrs. William
Baskin Jr. and three children of
Whittier, Calif.
On a fishing trip to Crescent
City this week were William
Baskin and his son, William Jr.,
and L. W. Monroe.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Monroe of
Four Corners spent July 4 with
Monroe's brother and sister-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mon
roe at Merlin. The two men
spent a day fishing in the Rogue
river near Galice.
Four churches took part in
the Illinois Valley Singspiration
held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the
Cave Junction Community
church.
A special feature was the ap
pearance of the Simpsonnaires,
a quartet from Simpson Bible
college who had sung earlier in
the day at the Community
church -service.
The next Singspiration is
planned for Bridgeview church
on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.
Terri Lynn Brown, seven-year-old
granddaughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd Wells, is spend
ing the summer at the Wells
home near Cave Junction. She is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W. R. Brown of Vallejo. Mrs.
Brown left last week after a 10
day visit with her parents.
The Ralph Messenger family
camped at Humbug and Harris
Beach State parks over the July
4 week end.

and family were at Melba, Ida.,
over the Fourth, where they vis
ited Millard's father and moth
er, Mr. and Mrs. Sol Millard.
At the Messenger home Sun
day were Ralph's sister and fam
ily, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Trefe
then of Eureka, who were re
turning from Shasta lake.
Because several members
were unable to attend, the regu
lar meeting of the Cave Junction
city council was postponed from
Monday until a date later in the
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Cook
returned Monday from a com
bined business and pleasure trip
to Boise, Ida., where they visited
relatives.
All the boys at the James
Boys home in Bridgeview to
gether with Mr. and Mrs. Earl
James, Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Poff and Irene George, had a
picnic on the beach at Crescent
City on July 4. Some 16 chil
dren attended. The group met
Mrs. Leta James, owner of the
home, at her beach cabin where
she had been spending the holidays.
Members of the Illinois Val
ley Dairy club held a swim and
watermelon feed at the Forks
Tuesday afternoon, July 2.
Showmanship practice was
the theme for the club's Satur
day meeting, held June 29 at the
Robert Martin home. Sharon
Frather provided refreshments.

ly couple where she had been
left last Sunday by her father.
Harry Ernest Woodward, 23,
father of the child, was arrested j
in Coos Bay Tuesday on a sec-1
ond degree kidnapping warrant ,
from Olympia, Wash.
Woodward was accused of tak- i
ing the child from her mother in
Olympia July 2 but he refused
until Saturday to reveal what he
had done with his daughter. Po
lice launched a statewide search
before Woodward finally dis
closed what he had done with
her. He was turned over to
Olympia authorities, who laid
they would take the child back
to Olympia with them.'

Home from a California trip
is Mrs. H. M. Simington, who
spent a week with her mother,
Mrs. Louise Bell, in San Fer
nando valley. While there she
saw former Valley resident, Mr.
and Mrs. Leonard Lee, Mr. and
Mrs. Russell Cooper and visited
with her son. Pat, who is em
ployed at Pacific Telephone
company in Los Angeles.
Accompanying Mrs. Siming
ton as far as Sacramento were
her husband, who is employed
in that city, their daughter, Mer
rill, and their daughter-in-law
and baby, Mrs. Delores Siming
ton and Lori. Simington stayed
at Sacramento while the others
returned late last week.
