nation's governors appeared
ready today to embrace Presi-.
dent Eisenhower's search for
days to turn federal services
back to the states despite wide-
spread doubts about how fruit-
ful it would be.
A resolution recommending
i at least a first step in this
j search was expected to go before
the final, closed session of the
annual governors conference
this afternoon.
A round table discussion on
natural resources preceded that
session.
Overall Savings
Eisenhower was described
here as being in a "put up or
shut up" mood about the pro-;
, posal he unveiled in a speech
l before the governors Monday
j night. He urged them to join ;
his administration in studying
I ways to give some federal func-;
I tions and tax levies back to the
states and suggested that the re
sult should be an overall saving
to the taxpayer. '
The President will have a
chance to restate his views to
the Republican minority of the
conference when the GOP gov
ernors visit him for lunch in the
White House Thursday.
Recommendation Seen
However, the resolutions com-'.
mittee of the conference was ex- j
pected to recommend that a
committee be appointed to study
the President's proposal and to
confer with administration offi
cials about how it might be car
ried out.
While there was no apparent
disposition to rebuff the Presi
dent, there was widespread skep
ticism among the governors,
particularly among Democrats,
that anything would be accomplished.

Jacksonville was recently award
ed the construction contract for
a new professional office buil
ding to be built by Ben T. Lom
bard of Ashland.
The new structure will con
sist of about 2.200 square feet
and will be adjacent to the U
S. National Bank building park
ing lot on Lithia Way.
llinshall was low bidder
among four construction firms
submitting bids on the building
which was designed by Jack A.
Edson, Medford architect. Other
bidders were the Wiley com
pany and V. J. Baratti, both of
Ashland, and Harold Salter.

only between certain hours and
then by half the town at one
time.
Then it was decided to permit '

homeowners with newly sodded
or newly seeded lawns. They,
too. get special privileges if their
applications are approved.
However, an inspector must
personally check on all such ap
