Greenberg when he first irrived

Somehow he never quite made

New Device May Make Powerful
Racer of Jet-Powered Speedboat

Jones, Seattle's ace hydroplane
designer, revealed today he had
"discovered" a new piece of me
chanical equipment that would
make his projected jet-powered
speedboat a terrific racing
craft.
"This new device." he said,
will make the jet 100 per cent
more efficient. She will be a ter
rific competition boat.'
Jones said work on the jet hy
droplane had been "extremely
slow." He had planned to have
her operating by the end of this
summer, but now said he hoped
to have the craft in the water
by the end of this year or early
next year.
300 mph Possible
Jones said the boat might
reach speeds of 300 miles an
hour and the man he has picked
to drive this waterbug is, natur
ally, Col. Russ Schleeh, the jet
pilot from Castle Air Force Base
near Merced, Calif.
Jones' jet will be 34 feet long
and 13 feet at the beam. She
will be a three-point type,
touching the water only in three
places at high speed, but the
sponsors will ride on outriggers
away from the hull.
The driver probably will sit
forward of the engine in a plas
tic bubble about 10 feet aft of
the bow. The jet engine will be
14 feet in length and present
plans call for a 6,200-pound
thrust.
Jones declined to elaborate on
the new equipment which he
said would make the jet hydro
plane a feasible racing boat.

five and fanned 10.
A walk and a fielder's option
put men on base for CP in the
third inning. Alvarez advanced
them with a fine bunt down the
first base line. Harold Allen
doubled for the only Cental
Point safety to bring in both
runners.
Wildcats Threaten
The Wildcats threatened In
