Shrine is in New York City.
I N the HAI.L of Fame for Great Americans, it's still pretty much
a man's world. Of the 8G bronze busts in the New York University
shrine, only eight women soften the stern line of bearded statesmen,
balding inventors, and rugged soldiers. But these women helped open
the doors not only to the Hall of Fame, but to many other phases of
American life. They are the sullragettes, educators, writers, and
scientists who proved a woman's place is where she makes it. In years
to come, other women will take their place on the famed colonnade
overlooking the Harlem and Hudson River valleys thanks to
the lonely eight who blazed the trail.
Emma Willard was pioneer in Mary Lyon devoted a life to Charlotte Saunders Cushman Maria Mitchell was a rank
education of young women, famous Mt. Holyoke College, was a leading tragedienne, ing astronomer of her day.
