Milwaukie Man Hurt
When Struck by Pole

was injured critically Thursday
when a pole he was unloading at
the city water and light storage
yard rolled on him.
Crocker had hauled a load of
poles to the storage yard for a
Portland firm and was on the load
when a pole rolled and threw
him off the truck. He landed on
his back and the pole fell on top
of him.

man, charged with theft of fed

ty in Humboldt county, Calif.
However, the jury returned
a verdict of guilty on both
counts against Magnolia Motor
and Logging company, of which
Lamb is president.
Motion Indicated
Company attorneys have indi
cated a motion for acquittal will
be filed on behalf of the corpo
ration. Federal Judge J. Frank
McLoughlin said he would levy
a penalty against the company
as soon as he receives a proba
tion report. Maximum fine on
each count is S 10.000.
The charges grew out of
"Hiatus" or gap in survey lines
between two townships in a sur
vey made several years ago, it
was explained. The company
followed the original survey
lines when logging operations
began. In 1954, the government
established new lines. Logging
operations were stopped in ths
area and trees which had been
felled in 1953 were not remov
ed. The government contended
the land was federal property.

Lamb and the company were
accused of removing S25.000
worth of timber from govern
ment land.
Assistant U.S. Attofney James
S. Eddy was quoted as saying
criminal charges in this type of
case are rare. Usually, he said,
settlements are made out of
court or civil actions are taken.
The trial started Monday,
June 3. The jury started delib
erating Thursday night and the
verdict was returned a short
time later.
