Queen Elizabeth and the Duke

Princess Margaret and Princess
Alexandra in another sign that
the social stigma attached to
divorcees in Britain is rapidly
breaking down.
Both Fairbanks, former hus-o.-.nd
of actress Joan Crawford,
jnd his wife have been married
before. The Queen and Duke's
attendance at a Fairbanks pri

touched off a storm of protest
Margarets new boy friend
was Lord Patrick Beresford. 25,
who plays polo with the Duke
and says he prefers spending
his time in the stables to "wast
ing his time" with debutantes.
H'S family seat is in the re
public of Ireland, which allows
Bri'iih peers to continue living
there and retain their titles
even though it is no longer part
of the British Empire.
Lord Beresford has been the
princess' constant escort in re
cent weeks and their long day
together started early. He join
ed the royal party in their box
at Ascot race-course and lean
ed over Margaret's shoulder to
mark her race card.
He was one of the two "mys
tery" men seen with Margaret
last week. The other, bearded,
has not been identified public
ly. Queen Elizabeth arrived in a
dazzling white gown and spark
ling diamond tiara. She danced
with Fairbanks and sat on one
side drinking champagne while
hundreds of guests danced in
the great ballroom.

New York 'IP1 Good looks
and charm help a girl in the
business world. But one success
ful business woman warns that
the combination only opens the
doors, it doesn't guarantee ten
ancy. This advice to the girl grad
uate job hunting this summer
comes from Dorothy Noyes, who
she was 24. she was account ex
ecutive and copy writer for a
New York agency specializing
in pharmaceutical advertising.
Then she decided to open her
own business, and with Eugene
Sproul. another specialist in the
same field, formed the Noyes
and Sproul agency.
She later married Sproul. The
couple now is divorced although
the business partnership is go-
managed to become" a big wheel!"1? strong. The couple has one

and treasurer of Noyes and
Sproul, Inc., an agency special
ing in medical and pharmaceut

Advertising Woman of 1957 by
the Advertising Federation of
America. '
'Don't depend too much on
good looks and charm," said
Miss Noyes, who has both.
"They may open the doors. buf
they won't make the sale."
Just Beginning
This was one of the five
"don'ts" she believes all job ap
plicants, men and women, should
remember. The other four:
"Don't think your college di
ploma is the end of your educa
tion; actually you are just begin
ning to learn.
"Don't look for a mate who is
physically attractive only.
"Don't fritter away your leis
ure time. Plan how to use it as
constructively as your office
hours.
"And as a girl, don't base all
! your hopes on being just a home
' maker. Be prepared to contrib
I ute to the family income if it
I is necessary."
I She also listed five "do's."
"Do devote yourself whole-
heartedly and constructively to
i the job.
"Do all you can to improve
your skills; learn all you can
in the scientific, mathematical
and technical fields especially.
"Do find out as soon as you
can what you are most interest
ed in, and then go after a job
in that field as fast as you can.
Do More
"Do more than your daily job
requires. Everyone owes some
thing to his or her community,
and to the advancement of his
or her profession
"Do develop an interest In
things international . . be aware
of what is happening in the
world around you.
Miss Noyes. a native of Balti
