First place San Francisco and

blanked by 2-0 scores. San Di
ego s Dick Brodowski served the
Seals a six-hit whitewashing and
Charlie Rabe of Seattle gave
Vancouver only five hits with
out a run.
And Portland knocked off
third place Hollywood 6-5 in 14
innings. Los Angeles dumped
Sacramento 8-2 in the loop's oth
er game.
San Diego scored its two runs
on a double by Rudy Regalado
in the third inning and Brodow
ski outdueled Jack Spring to
win.
Good Pitching
Brodowski fanned eight and
walked only one ui posting his
third straight win.
Both San Diego runs were un
earned as Regalado continued
his hitting streak with four for
five. Jim Dyck scored both of
Seattle's runs in the win over
Vancouver. He doubled and
scored the first one and theji hit
a solo homer off Ed Erautt for
the second tally.
Rabe fanned seven and walked
only one.
Steve Bilko paced the Los An
geles attack with his 13th home
run of the season and a single.
The homer came with nobody

Another Long One
Portland and Hollywood went
extra innings for the second
straight night. Monday night

the 14th and eventually came
home on a sacrifice fly by Luis
Marquez.

Decision Over Joe Maxim

I didn't feel a thing."
That's what Carl (Bobo) Olson
said in his dressing room Tues
day night after he had taken a
split decision over the veteran
Joey Maxim at Civic auditor
ium here.
Olson was awarded the decis
ion by both judges. Judge Ed
die Volk had the ex-middleweight
champ ahead 57i-52'.j
and the other judge, Dick Wag
ner had Olson ahead 56-54. Only
the referee, Ralph Gruman. had
Maxim in front. He gave the
fight to Maxim, 56-54.
The ex-middleweight kingpin
was fighting for the first time
since May 18, 1956. when he
lost a return match to Sugar
Ray Robinson for the 160-pound
title.
He went into the fight at 187
pounds, eight more than he had
figured. But the extra pound
age didn't seem to hurt Olson
He looked like the once-proud
owner of the middleweight
crown as he continually hit
Maxim wilh sharp lefts and
rights.
To Take 10 Off
Sid Flaherty, Bobo's manag
er, said after the fight: "we'll
take another 10 pounds off him
and he'll be all right You know,
making that 160-pound weight
weakened him too much. He's
too big of a man to fight in
the middleweight class."
Flaherty thought Olson's tim
ing was off a little, but other
wise thought Bobo's showing in
the fight was good after such
a long layoff.
