I here are plenty of cood used cars around and
there's no reason why you can't get your money's
worth if you use your head. Decide on the make
and model that's hest for you in the price range you
can afford, then go out and shop.
If there's anything wrong with the car you want to
buy, remember that it's up to you to find it. If a
sidesman oilers to repair the defects you find, get the
offer in writing from a responsible member of the
firm. If the dealer wants a deposit before allowing
you to road-test a car, make sure you have a written
agreement that you can get your money back.
The purpose of the on-the-lot test is to eliminate
at the start cars in such bad shape that further road
testing would be a waste of time. Besides using the
tests described here, get a copy of your state's auto
inspection requirements and make sure the car will
pass them without additional repairs.
Buying a used car carefully will not only keep you
out of the lemon grove and the bankruptcy court, but
will insure you many miles of happy driving.
