a friend of his, in business for
some years in Colombia, had
sent him a stamp which he had
accepted from a customer in
payment of debt for S500. The
customer ha1 got himself into
some kind of a jam during the
ousting of the Colombian dic
tator last month and was as
anxious to got out of it as Larry's
friend was to lotve him do so
The stamp, accepted on the
probability that that was all the
creditor would ever get, was an
Argentine item. It was of a 10
centavo denomination, green.

More interesting than that,
and strictly not regulation, was
the inscription inlaid in gold
in the walnut grips. "Shoot me
only when needed," it said, "and
I will serve your sons."
".My father had that put on
back in "83." Ben said, "and ;t
sure looks like this gun will
serve my grandsons, too."
The more I looked at the
weapon, the more I wanted one.
In the course of three months
or so I found two. One was
available at SfiO. and not worth
it because of the condition. The
other was in splendid shape and
a real buy even though the bot
tom figure was $125.

ified by the portrat they carry
of Bernardino Rivadavia, one
time President of Aregentina and
head of its Unitarian Party
which was anything but reli
gious. The engraving on the stamp
is very clear, and if there is a
watermark on it, visible when i
held up to the light, consisting
of the letters "R.A." then it
is a very worth-while item, in
deed In Larry's case the stamp was
even more worth-while. It was
unused, and every test given it
showed that it was genuine, not
one of the many counterfeits
that hav been made in recent
years. ,
The catalog value of the ;
stamp, as listed in Scott's, was'
S500. But Larry felt that he
could do better than that and
did so, getting enough so that
he could send his friend in Bo
gota S625 after payment of com

took us on a field trip and we
learned more about their bark
