ing of the Table Hock Comrnu
n.ty club for the season was
held Friday evening. May 31. at
TouVelle park. A cool breeze
green, well-kept lawn, and the
always beautiful Rogue river,
made an ideal setting for the
picnic dinner and was a striking
contrast to the day's heat during
working hours.

Elmo Stailings is back on the
job at the Table Top ranch after
a lay-off of some two and one
half months nursing a mangled
finder caused by a mix-up with
n electric drill.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bigham
of Sacramento. Calif., visited
relatives at the Frank Myers
home the first of the week.
Others visiting from the same
place were Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Eishop. and Mrs. Will Gregory,
of Medford.
Farmer's prices for their
products, as advertised in the
classified ads in the local paper,
reminds one of depression days
while the display ads of manu
factured products bring back
memories of the days of 192'J,
just before the big bust. Some
farmers are advertising hay for
a little more than the cost of

inf with the hay harvest at the
Table Top ranch.
The population of the commu
nity was increased by the birth
of a eijht pound boy, Tuesday,
June 4, at, the Sacred Heart
hospital. 7 he baby was born to
.Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wallin.

recently received letters from
the office of the company in
! Medford, stating that they hau
received numerous complaints
that some subscribers were us
ing the telephone for lengthy
visits, also that tariffs provide
for five minute limits on local
calls, and if necessary, the line
will be monitored to determine
who is abusing the privilege of
a party line. Some of this is
probably caused by time passing
too quickly, and the fact that
the line was out recently from
2 p.m. Saturday until some
time Monday, causing an accu
mulation of business matters to
be attended to. and of course
many neighborly visits by the
women folks.
Elgin Robinson arrived home
Wednesday from the Camp
Pendleton Marine training cen
ter and will spend his ten day
leave of absence with home
folks here, where he will get
plenty of " setting up" exercises

A long funeral procession
passed through here last Friday
on the way to the Sams Valley
cemetery, where the remains of
Mrs. Jane Cook, beloved pioneer
lady of Gold Hi!!, were laid to
rest.

at Crater Hrgh school Friday,
May 31.
Evidently thinking that some
M.T. boxes are for the birds,
Mr. and Mrs. Blue Bird have
built them a nest in the paper
box at the Richardson place and
in spite of the traffic, only a
few feet away, and the daily de
livery of the paper, are hatch
ing out a brood of blue birds.
Papa blue bird kept watch for
the paper lady, so mama would
not get hit in the face with the
evening paper, until the kind
lady took to putting it in the
rural box. These are a rare spe
cies of blue birds and the Rich
ardsons are hoping to keep pos
session, but there may be some
One-Car Accident
Hospitalizes Man
Donald Harold Hooper. 30., of
2S22 Table Rock rd., was taken
to Rogue Valley hospital early
Saturday morning for treatment
of injuries received in a one
cet auto accident.
State police said Hooper suf
fered a cut left leg and possible
broken ribs when the sedan he
was operating left the pavement
while traveling south on High
way 99 at Seven Oaks curve
and rolled over six or seven
tmes.
He told police the accident oc
curred when he was reaching for
a cigaret. The car was a total
loss, according to officers.
Drain Woman Freed
On Shooting Charge
Roseburg 'IP Mrs Irma
Myrtle Miller, 57. Drain, the
woman who had been accused of
shooting Garrett A. Maupin. 62.
Drain. May 26. and charged with
first degree murder, walked out
of district court here at 3:10
p.m. yesterday a free woman.
District Judje Warren Wood
ruff said there was no evidence
to link Mrs. Miller with Maupin's
death.
Investicating officers testified
at Mrs. Miller's hearing orig
inally set for June 10 on de
tails of the shooting. Maupin
was shot in his bed with a rifle
the morning of the 26th.
The woman apparently shot
herself in the chest, reportedly
attempting suicide, with a 22
caliber pistol, and was returned
from a Eugene hospital to Doug
las county jail last Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs Robert Cupples
and daughter have gone to Okla
homa, where Cupples plans to
attend a summer session at one
of the colleges there.
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Moore
are visiting in Winniewood,
Okla., with Mrs. Moore's mother,
Mrs Norman. The Moores have
I made plans to return soon so
that Mrs. Moore can attend the
summer session at Southern Ore
gon college.
Recently visiting Mrs. Tincey
Murray were Norman Wilson
and son, Bobby, of San Diego.
Norman is Mrs. Murray's son.
The Wilsons and Mrs. Murray
returned to San Diego for a
short visit. Mrs. Murray also
plans to attend the summer ses
sion at Southern Oregon col
lege. Mr. and Mrs. Art Backlund
and children moved to Grants
Pass this past week. Mrs. Back
lund and children plaji to re
main in Grants Pass while Art
attends the summer session at
Eugene. Art's plans for next
year are uncertain at the pres
ent time.
Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Machlan
left this week for a short visit
to San Diego. The Machlans plan
to return sometime during the
coming week.
Mrs. Roger Harris will leave
for Ashland Sunday, June 9, to
attend the summer session at
Southern Oregon college.

among senators, where one is
likened to a tub of rancid ig
norance, to a peaceful nest of
blue birds. As the Richardsons
have a barrister son in Port
land who has been very suc
cessful in cases like this, they
have hopes of winning it if it
should go to court.
Earle Jossy, Jackson county
extension agent, was out this
way Friday inspecting alfalfa
fields. He said that the damage
to valley alfalfa crops was
caused by extensive rains dur
ing the month of March.
Jackson county retired teach
ers will meet at the home of
Mrs. J. S. Richardson Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jolliffe and
son. Chipper, and Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Irwin plan to motor to
Brookings over the week end.
The Jolliffes and Irwins have
made plans to camp along the
Chetco river and put in their
time swimming, picknicking and
fishing. They also plan to attend
the Azalea festival at Brook

made a return visit to the homes
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Red)
Capello and Mr. and Mrs. Porky
Smith. Mrs. LcRoy Smith and
Mrs Porky Smith arc sisters.
Mrs. LcRoy Smith also visited
with her sister. Mrs. Wally Wills,
of Camp White, her brother. Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Giles of Med
ford, and her mother, Mrs. Naff
ziger, of Medford, and returned
to Centralia June 4.
Mrs. Bill Rodgers and chil
dren and Mrs. Jess Rodgers, of
Butte Falls. Mrs. Ray Shema
hon and daughter, of Eagle
Point, Mrs. Jim Mulhoullen and
girls and Mr.-. Tom Mulhoullen,
both of Medford, spent Wednes
day, June 5 at Willow creek
dam. The group spent the day
swimming and picnicking until
a storm blew them out.
Gary Lee and Hugh Eastburn,
of Sutherlin, are spending two
weeks with their grandmother.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith of
Butte Falls. The boy's mother,
Marie Eastburn, is a daughter
of Mrs. Smith.
A baby shower was given
Thursday evening, June 6. at
the city hall for Mrs. Ted Red
dell. Hostesses for this evening
were Mrs. Glenn Cathey and
Mrs. William Harris.
Games were played, refresh
ments were served and gifts
opened.

weeks stay in Oakridge, where

truck. During their stay at Oak
ridge, the Stauffers visited at the

Hodge.

and Mrs. Fred Lcmery, of Eu
gene, motored to Bremerton
! over Memorial day. The women
went on to Seattle via the ferry,
dined at Fisherman's Wharf and
stayed overnight in Portland at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Walker. Mrs. Walker is a daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Page Stauffer.
Mrs. Alva Webster, general
chairwoman for the school pic
nic held the last day of school
at the Grade School, would like
to extend her thanks to every
one for their help in making this
annual affair the success it was.
This annual picnic is one of
the many projects of the Butte
Falls PTA. Mrs. Webster also
stated that anyone missing
dishes or silverware from the
Members of the 4-H Forestry
club of Butte Falls are planning
a picnic and day of tree seed
planting June 15. Planting will
be done on Medford Corpora
tion lands along the Butte Falls
Prospect road near Mil-Mar
ranch. The planting job will be
the main project for the year.

Lion Auxiliary will meet at the
home of Mrs. William L. Harris
Tuesday evening. June 11, to
begin work on 300 program cov
ers for L i o ns' convention.
Amendments to the state aux
ilary constitution will be dis
cussed at this meeting. Favors
are also being planned for Con
vention to be held in Medford
June 20, 21 and 22.
Members of the Mt. Pitt club
will be hostesses at a street
dance Friday evening, June 14.
Music will be by records and
the person purchasing the cup
cake with the surprise object
in its center will win a prize.
Tentative plans are in the
making for special entertain
ment during intermission. The
street will be roped off in front
of the city park and refresh
ments will be on sale in the
park. Admission will be by
donation.
