ciation to "reconsider their ill
advised decision" to call a strike
next week because of a dispute
over purse distribution.
Members of the SOA notified
officials of the local harness rac
ing track Thursday that if their
demands are not rrached they
will rot enter horses for next
Friday program. Entries for
that day normally would be
made next Monday morning.
The horsemen have asked that
their share of the purses be in
creased from 35 to 45 per cent
of the track percentage.

Portland colleges will dominate
the list of Oregon entires in the
annual National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics track
and field meet today and Satur
day in San Diego.
In the discus and javelin
events will be two Lewis and
Clark college weightmen. Loren
Michelson was fourth in the dis
cus last year and Joe Boutin was
fifth in the javelin. Jim Clayton
will also hurl the javelin for
Lewis & Clark and Bob Mitchell
will be entered in the two-mile.
Len Lukens, another two-mil-er
from Portland State college
is entered along with Mitchell.

tobelli went to Columbus under
24-hour recall option.
Portland The office of the
Adjutant General of the State
of Oregon has transmitted to
the Oregon State Rifle and
Pistol association an order stat
ing that they shall choose a team
from the citizens of the state to
represent Oregon in the national
matches at Camp Perry. Ohio,
from August 9 through Septem
ber 19.
The team is 1o consist of 10;
men and to be either high power
rifle, fired with a Ml service)
rifle, or pistol, fired with a .45 I
caliber service automatic or a
combination of the two.
It is expected that the govern
ment will defray the cost of the
team to the extent of 5c per mile
and SI. 50 per day, per team
member.
Tryouts for this team, under
the auspices of the Oregon State
Rifle and Pistol association will
be held on Sunday, June 9. at
Camp Withycombe, Clackamas.

able at the range, rifles through
the courtesy of the National
Guard unit; Pistols courtesy of
members of the Portland Revol
ver club and sporting goods
stores in the Portland area. Am
munition will be furnished by
the director of civilian marks
manship, at no charge to the
competitor.
Since the object of this match
is to promote shooting among
the citizens of the state, both
Irom an angle of pleasure shoot
ing and defense, it will not be
necessary for a shooter to signi
fy his ability to attend Camp
Perry in order to fire the match
at Camp Withycombe. If a con
testant fires a good enough score
he may or may not accept the
Perry trip, and the next lowest
shooter will be chosen.
High power shooters are re
quested to be at the range at
7:30 a.m., the morning of June
9, for squadding arrangements.
Pistol shooters may report
the range any time after 8 ajn..
with firing to start at 9 p.m. and
to continue until all applicanti
possible have been allowed to
fire.
