Richard L. Neuberger (D.-Ore.)
said Sunday the Department of
Agriculture has decided not to
create additional cooperative
agreements on federal units for
national forest timber.
This new policy is in line with
recommendations of the Senate
Interior committee which held
extensive hearings in Oregon on
federal timber sale policy in.
1955-56, Neuberger said.
The new department policy
will continue with existing co
operative agreements and units,
including one at Lakeview, Ore.
Independent operators did not
favor cooperative agreements
because of their belief they con
tributed to a concentration of
federal timber holdings in the
hands of large companies.
The Interior committee recom
mended cessation of agreements
and units to promote a "better
competitive situation."
