Observes Anniversary
The 25th anniversary of the
Jackson county chapter of Dis
abled American Veterans was
observed at a special banquet
meeting this week.
The late Arthur H. Banwell,
who died recently in Seattle,
Wash., was honored. Before mov
ing to Seattle, Banwell had been
executive secretary of the Jack
son County Chamber of Com
merce and served as commander
of the local DAV chapter from
April 1937 to April 1938.
The Jackson county chapter
meets each second and fourth
Tuesday at 1515 NorUi Riverside
ave. Pat Graham, service officer,
said new hours have been estab
lished for the office because
other work prevents him from
being in the office on Mondays
and Thursdays.
New office hours are between
9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday,
Wednesday and Friday and by
appointment ony on Thursday
and Saturday.

YMCA Membership Drive Starts Today
The Medford YMCA member
ship round up got underway
with a western swing today at
a chuck wagon breakfast pre
pared by Doug Fosbury and the
Y Knot Twilers Square Dance
club.
The western theme is carried
into the drive for members with
four ranges being run by range
bosses, S. V. McQueen, Irving
Eitreim, Dr. G. A. Dierdorff and
Ray Offord.
Ranch foreman are the same
as team captains and their ob
jective is to bring in 500 points
so that they can redeem the
mortgage on their ranch held by
Lou Cranston, round up boss.
Points are awarded for branding
new Y members or having old
members renew their annual
dues.
Ranch foremen include Jay
Pierce, Robert Darnes, Fred
Sears, Milton Snow, Frank Wil
son, Dr. William Roberts, Carl
Brophy, Robert Taylor, Mrs.
Owen Kunkel, Gordon Williams,
Lanell Wilkes, Alex McDonald
and Robert Elliott.
Mrs. John Mansfield, chuck
wagon boss, announced that a
breakfast for ranch hands is
scheduled at the next report
meeting, Tuesday, May 21, at
7 a.m. at the YMCA. ,

day after a full pack of fox
hounds failed to find him. The
hounds, led by a horn-blowing
hunt master, were called out by
police Thursday to assist in the
manhunt. After a quick run
