Ezio Pinza Funeral
Services Saturday
New York OJ.R) A funeral
service will be held here Satur
day for Ezio Pinza, operatic and
musical comedy star, who died
Thursday at the age of 64.
Canon Edward N. West will
officiate at the service at 11 a.m.,
(EST) at the Cathedral of St.
John the Divine. Eleanor Steber,
a Metropolitan Opera Co. so
prano and personal friend of
Pinza, will sing "Ave Maria"
from Verdi's "Otello," one of the
famed basso's favorite selections.
The Episcopal cathedral's full
choir of 40 boys and 27 men also
will participate in the service.
Burial will be in Putnam
cemetery in Greenwich, Conn.
"The foundation is privileged
to salute on this occasion the
Army's recognition of the fact
when evaluating this marvel of
human engineering that, in the
final analysis, nothing can re
place a well cared for pair of
feet."

New York City by the Rev.
Billy Graham is imminent. Of
course, New York, which has
a higher percentage of regular
churchgoers than any other city
in the country, is in no great
need for reforming. This is espe
cially true of the Borough of
Brooklyn which was known for
years as "The City of Churches"
and is the oflly major community
in the United States that has an
annual Sunday School Parade.
However, the Rev. Graham is a
picturesque personality and his
visit to the Big Town should be
interesting. The most spectacular
evangelistic mission to New
York was that of Alexander
Dowie, over 50 yeaiS ago. Dowie
and 3,000 of his followers from
Zion City, 111., arrived on eight
special trains. Dowie took over
Madison Square Garden. His
mission was exciting but not suc
cessful from an evangelistic
viewpoint. Among the exciting
incidents was when Carry Na
tion, the fiery feminine reform
er invaded Madison Square Gar
den uninvited and challenged
Dowie to a debate. Dowie or
dered that Carry be thrown out.
