Help Appearance
The grace and richness of
wrought iron railings and col
umns can do much to enhance
the appearance and value of
your home.
Modern methods have greatly
reduced the costs involved in the
fabrication of wrought iron. In
fact, the cost of wrought iron
railings and columns is often less
than masonry and wood where
good design and construction
practice is followed.
Advantages 0f Wrought Iron
While wrought iron railings
and columns offer a grace and
charm not duplicated in other
structural forms, this is but one
of many advantages. They are
equal or superior in structural
strength to wood, afford no gath
ering, places for destructive
moisture and concealed rotting.
They are compact and do not re
quire heavy bases and construc
tion necessary where masonry is
used. They are quickly and easi
ly installed.
Wrought iron railings can be
used in many places where wood
railings are impractical and ma
sonry would be too costly, such
as aroung uncovered platforms,

cally indestructible and requires

Jalousy Windows Are
Coming in Everywhere
Although popular for many
years in home construction in
the South, jalousy windows and
doors are coming into their own
in all parts of the country.
Jalousies are a series of glass
louvers or slats which may be
opened or closed by means of a
worm and gear operation. When
fully opened they permit a great
er flow of air than most win
dows. Even when fully opened,
they do not permit rain to enter.
They may be left open at any
degree of tilt of the louvers, and
lock wherever they are stopped.
When closed they are tightly
sealed against compressed
weather-stripping.
Any open area can be enclosed
with jalousies. They are fre
quently used in combination
with fixed picture windows; as
porch enclosures; in vestibules
where the front door opens di
rectly into a living room.
Extra space in the kitchen is
always welcomed by the house
wife with the usual small kit
chen. Here are a few decorating
hints that will add inches to
your room and increase its ef
ficiency. First of all. a U-shaped work
center is ideal for a room that
has limited wall space. You'll
still have plenty of cabinet and
working surface, but by shap
ing the work center into a "U"
there will be added wall space
that can be utilized for closets
or extra shelves, Besides, the
U-shaped work center gives the
kitchen a modern, "good-idea"
look.
Another space-saver is a table
that swings in and out from a
cabinet. Just pull it out when
you need it, or silde it back
when that extra work area is
desired.
A cupboard that revolves can
be another handy improvement
for that kitchen with limited
space. Just spin the shelves
around and everything is at your
finger tips.
A handy work-saver is to use
linoleum for the tops of the cab
inets and sink unit. It's smooth
and easy to clean. A damp cloth
is all that's needed to wipe off
dust or spilled liquids.
Linoleum also can be used ef
fectively on closet shelves. It's
long wearing, always bright,
and so smooth that dust can be
wiped off in a jiffy.
Ideas like these are easy to
carry out. The kitchen that seem
ed to lack space and efficiency
can be transformed overnight
to a unit where working is a
pleasure.

no place in today's modern
home. In this day, the closet
is no longer a small cubicle
stuffed and cramped from floor
to ceiling.
