Contributions to
Heart Fund Increase
Memorial contributions to the
Oregon Heart association: for a
nine-month period through
March 31 totaled $16,712 as com
pared to $14,786 for the same
period a year ago, according to
Mrs. Marina Gates of Medford,
local memorial chairman.
Jackson county residents con
tributed a total of $458.15 from
July 1, 1956, to March 31, 1957.
During the first quarter of 1956
they contributed $179.50 as com
pared to $214 in the first quar
ter of 1957.
Mrs. Gates explained that all
memorial contributions are ear
marked for heart research. Me
morial contributions are made
in the name of individuals who
have died from heart diseases.
The Oregon Heart association
will spend approximately $50,
000 for research at Oregon in
stitutions this year, Mrs. Gates
said. Projects are under way at
the University of Oregon medi
cal school, Oregon State college.
University of Portland and Reed
college.
Three Youths Are
Arrested by Deputies
Three 16-year-old Rogue River
boys were arrested by sheriff's
deputies last week in connection I
with the theft of three batteries
from a truck last January or
.February.
Owner of the truck was identi
fied as Warren L. Dresbach,
route 1, box 75, Rogue River.
One of the three was also
held, along with a fourth teen
age Rogue River boy, in con
nection with the attempted theft
