Smart planning can put every bit of space
to work and also save steps. One idea is to
use an island or peninsula, combining a
counter-top range and breakfast bar, in the
center of the kitchen. This may seem a
crowded arrangement but actually utilizes
dead space and requires less "mileage" from
the homemaker. There are other tricks, too.
Keep the wall oven (flanked with handy
counters, if you please) near the serving
area, and place the sink with a dishwasher
on one side and a clothes washer-dryer
on the other. With today's adaptable
appliances to help, it's possible to conserve
room and motion in every size kitchen.
