Senate Approves Highway Study By Interim Group

Senate has passed Senate joint
Resolution 36 providing for an
interim committee on highway
study.

terim committee would study
Oregon's plansfor highway con
struction under the federal high
way system program expected
to bring some S337 million of
federal money into Oregon in the
next 10 years.
To Study Weight-Mil Tax
Also to be studied is the im
pact of the weight-mile tax on
the economy of the motor car
rier industry In Oregon. Sen.
Boivin said the weight-mile tax
had produced more revenue than
anticipated and a study would
be mfede of the feasibility of
making some adjustment.
Senate bill 62, dealing with
the Unemployment Compensa
tion Commission, was sent back
to committee again with instruc
tions to provide that members of
the commission, after appoint
ment by the governor, be ap
proved by the Senate.
Would Separata Commission
The measure originally called
for creation of a one-man em
ployment security commissioner
to replace the three-man un
employment Compensation Com
mission. The bill was sent back
once before with instructions to
,keep it as a three-man commis
! sion and retain the title of un-
'mission. Chief purpose of SB62
now would be to separate me
unemployment compensa t i o n
commission from the State In
dustrial Accident Commission.
At present, the same three mem
bers serve on both commissions.
YOUTH ATTENDED RALLY
Several youth from the First
Church of God plan to attend
the Southern Oregon Youth
Rally at Riddle Saturday at
2p.m. Five churches of southern
Oregon .will participate in this
April Rally. Doris Ryn, local
youth leader, is secretary for the
southern Oregon Rallies.
SUNDAY BROADCASTS
Sunday a weekly radio
broadcast by the Apostolic Faith
church at Third and Central will
be broadcast over KYJC at
8:30 a.m. The program will fea
ture singing and music with a
short message by the pastor. The
35 - piece orchestra, 30 -voice
choir, the young people's chorus,
male chorus, the pipe organ and
various musical and vocal
groups will be heard on the pro
gram from time to time.
