And Music Announced
Sunrise Easter services as be-1
ing planned by many of the local
churches. Several combined com
munity services will be also held
with the public invited to at
tend any of the services.
The annual Easter sunrise
service will be held Sunday at
6 a.m. at Heuner's Butte near
Jacksonville sponsored by the
Medford Inter-church Youth
council.
A trumpet trio from Medford
Senior high school will open
the service with "A Salute to
Dawn." Easter messages will be
given by Marilyn Parsons of
Medford First Methodist church;
and Ron Warner, First Church of
the Nazarene.
Others taking part in the serv
ice include Sharon Walsh, song
leader; Sue Donna Doolen, or
ganist; Jonna Henson, worship
leader; Jim James, prayer; and
Dale Haggard, scripture reading.
Signs at Arnold lane and Jack
sonville highway and at Stewart
ve. and Bellinger lane will
direct the way. The service is
open to all regardless of denom
ination. Church of th Brethren
The Church of the Brethren
will begin their Easter day with
a sunrise service on Roxy Ann
at 5:15 a.m. Worshippers will
leave from the church at 4:55
a.m. and return to the church for
an Easter breakfast to be served
by the W o m e n 's council at
7 a.m.
The young people of the East
wood Baptist church, North
Keene Way dr. at Ridgeway,
will lead in an Easter sunrise
service at the church starting
at 6:30 a.m. The Rev. Richard
M. Jones, pastor, will speak.
Following the service an all-
church breakfast will be served
by the women of the church with
Mrs. Herbert Fields, Mrs. E. Ron
Rice, Mrs. L. Paul Walker, and
Mrs. Donald Matheus in charge.
There will be a free will offer
ing received for the breakfast.
First Baptist church
Sunrise services at First Bap
tist church, Medford, will start
at 5 a.m. with the project spon
sored by the young people's
groups. Easter music and a brief
Easter message will be included
in the program.
Breakfast will be served at the
church following the meeting.
The First Christian church
youth groups have planned the
sunrise service to be held at the
church Sunday at 6 a.m.
Opening the day's activities at
Friends church will be .sunrise
ervices at 5:30 a.m. on the hill
aid at the J. W. Smith home
on Old Stage rd.
- Young people will take part
in the program and speaker will
be Roland Hartley, assistant pas
tor of Talent Friends church.
Following the service two
breakfasts will be served: for
higi school and coiiege youth on
th6 Smith patio, and for junior
high schoolers at the R. B. Lang-
ton home, Central Point.
St. Mark's Epiicopal
The traditional sunrise choral
eucharist at St. Mark's Episcopal
church will be held at 6:30 a.m.
St. Mark's senior choir, under
the direction of John Drysdale,
and with Mrs. Ernes G. Conrad
at the console, will sing Easter
music, including the introit,
"Hosanna to the Son of David"
and the anthem, "Open the
Gates."
An Easter sunrise service will
be held at the Star-lite drive-in
theatre at 6 a.m. Sunday spon
sored by St. Peter Evangelical
Lutheran church.
Bruce B o 1 d e n o w, Medford
High school student, will sing
the Easter songs, and portions
of Handel's Messiah will be play
ed before the start of the service
and during the offering.
The Rev. Kenneth Korby will
preach on "Weep Not, Mankind,
You Have A New Lord.
The collection that is received
at the service will be divided be
tween Oregon Easter seals for
crippled children, and the In
ternational Lutheran Hour.
Community Serrices
Ashland Sunrise services will
be held at 6 a.m. Sunday at the
Lithia drive-in theatre north of
Ashland. The service, sponsored
by the Men's club of the Grace
Lutheran church of Ashland,
will be conducted by the Rev.
E. Paul Riedel.
Persons are asked to attend, in
their automobiles.
Regular services will be con
ducted at the church at 8 a.m.
and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Applegate- Jacksonville Ruch
community church will hold
sunrise Easter services at 6:45
a.m. in the Bishop Creek area.
Regular worship service, com
bined with an Easter program,
will be held at the church from
10 a. m. until 12 noon.

jces will be held Sunday at 6 a.m.

Bible church, Eagle Point, at
5:15 a.m. at the home of the
Rev. Flovd Pollack.

Prospect are cooperating in a
community Easter sunrise which
will be held at the Rogue River
bridge viewpoint just below
Prospect at 5:45 a.m.
Mrs. Kenneth Vannice will
direct the music which will in
clude selections by the High
school choir and a trumpet trio.
The Rev. Gerald Gardner,
pastor of the Church of the
Nazarene, will speak.
Easter breakfast will be ser
ved in the Community hall im
mediately following the service.

Services Tonight
Good Friday services will be
held tonight at 7:45 p.m. at the
Philadelphia church, Grandview
ave., one block off Crater Lake
ave. ' The Rev. Thomas White,
pastor, will preach and music
will be included in the service.
It will close with the observance
of the Lord's Supper.
The public is invited to attend.

Unified Service Set
The morning worship the

a unified service beginning with
the children's program at
10:30 a.m. and continuing into
the Easter worship. An anthem
will be sung by the choir, "He
Is Not Here," and a violin solo
by Miss Ruth Rittenhouse.
In the evening the choir will
present a program including a
hymn sermon, pantomime by
Sandra Phiester, and reading by

day. The non-denominational serv
ice will begin at 4:45 a.m. (EST)
and will conclude when the first
rays of the sun are visible short
ly after 5 a.m. More than 5.000
persons from many parts of the
nation are expected to be on
hand for the 12th annual Easter
service.
This unique shrine, soon to be
designated a national war me
morial by act of Congress, was
founded in 1946 and "dedicated
to the glory of God and in loving
and grateful memory of Sander
son Sloane by his parents, Doug.
las and Sybil Sloane." Sandy
Sloane, a World War II pilot,
was killed on a mission over
Germany.
Since 1946 more than two
million persons have visited the
pine-bordered sanctuary with
its sweeping view of mountain,
forest and lake. -
