Freshmen Legislators Said
Oratorical and Egotistical
By FRANCES LITTRELL
"Sale m The legislature has
been in session 10 weeks; 101
bills have been passed by both
houses and have gone to the
Governor.
Thirty-two bills were passed
this last week, most of them
were called "loophole" legisla
tion and housecleaning or house
keeping bills. Bills to tighten up
the various state regulations are
always referred to as a simple
way of plugging up loopholes in
the present laws.

knew we left some loopholes in
this bill when we drafted it in
the last session but I didn't know
we left the whole side of the
fence out".
There is hope that the Demo

Veteran members of this As
sembly, the news men and the
lobbyists all agree that never
has there bee- a more oratori
cal, or egotistical group of fresh
men legislators. Some take as
long as 20 minutes to answer a
simple question. If this lengthy
oratory continues we will still
be- in session on the Fourth of
July.
We girls who write for our
home-town papers have formed
a club. There are 10 of ais and
we call ourselves The House
News Hens. Friday of last week
Jeryme English, who writes for
the Salem Statesman, met with
us for luncheon so perhaps we
will improve in our reports to
you in the future.
Wednesday of this week we
are to have an interview with
the Governor and we are all try
ing to come up with a very per
tinent question.
Will report it to you next
week.
