Three Legislators
Forming Fund Club
Salem U.R) Three Re
publican state legislators are or
ganizing a state-wide campaign
to establish a fund to help edu
cate the children of police offic
ers killed in line of duty.
The three Ed Cone of Eu
gene, Wayne Giesy of Monroe
and Sam Wilderman of Port
land said they will name the
organization the "Line of Duty
club." They hope to get all back
ers of the House bill to abolish
capital punishment in Oregon to
join the rew club.
Wilderman said all three leg
islators are supporting the bill
but that so far no one has come
forward wuh any plan to "do
something for the children of
the police officers who are killed
while performing their duty.
"We want this organization to
focus attention on the unfortun
ate wife and children of a po
lice officer killed in line of duty
rather than on the fellow who
pulled the trigger," Giesy said.
