Norblad Says Navy
Not Planning Site
Washington (U.R) Rep. Wal
ter Norblad said Friday that he
had been informed by the Navy
department that it definitely
does not plan development of a
naval air reserve facility in the
greater Portland area.
Norblad had asked the Navy
department to make clear its in
tentions in light of the Air
Force's recent cancellation of
plans to build a multi-million
dollar base in the Woodburn
area which the Navy would have
shared.
Prior to its plans to share the
proposed Woodburn facility, the
Navy had indicated an interest
in building a reserve training
facility at Killsboro airport.
Norblad quoted a Navy de
partment official as saying, "At
the present time no requirements
for the Hillsboro site is tore
seen." The announcement was
taken to mean that the present
naval training facility at Salem
will continue as the only such
base in the Portland area.
