candy is a new product known
as "Beef Sweet Steaks" and was
developed by Ed Coles of Prine
ville. Ore. The candy contains
25 per cent beef and is very
palatable, it is reported.
The Cow Belles plan to sell
the candy and books on beef
cookery at the Cal-Ore sale Mar.

Gordon Stanley attended the an
nual Klamath County Cow Belle
tea February 20. The event was
held in the new Presbyterrian
church In Klamath Falls with
many attending.
The Jackson County unit of
Cow Belles has been organised
only slightly more than a year,
but is already working actively
with the stockmen s association
in beef promotion. Dues are nom
inal, it is said, and associate
memberships are cpen to those
women not actively connected
with the cattle-raising industry.

Family Returns ,
To California
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Brainerd
and daughters left for their
home in Petaluma, Calif., Sun
day after visiting in Medford.
Grants Pass and Salem. The
Brainerds arrived last week,
stopping briefly here with Mr.
Brainerd brother and sister-in-law.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Brainerd.
In Grants Pass they were guests
of Mr. Brainerds' family, and in
Salem they visited Mrs. Brain
erd's mother, Mrs. E. A. Littrell
and Mr. Littrell, Medford resi
dents now in Salem for the Ore
gon legislature. Mr. Littrell is
representative from Jackson
county.
Saturday the Brainerds held a
family dinner in Grants Pass,
with Mr. and Mrs. Phil Brainerd
going over from here for the
event.
Two Women Join
Medford Society
Mrs. J. E. Harper and Mrs.
Betty M. Price became members
of Medford Rose society at the
last meeting, held in the court
house auditorium. Forty-seven
attended the meeting.
Ernest Vehrs. Grants Pass,
consulting rosarian for this dis
trict, spoke on the planting, mul
ching and pruning of roses. A
question and answer period fol
lowed.
A prize was won by Miss Ruth
Sutherlin.
Guests included Mrs. W. H.
Arnold, Mrs. B. W. Netherland,
Mrs. Clarence R. Schmidt, Mrs.
Nellie Wall, Mrs. Sadie Roach,
Mrs. N. Ashley and Gus Gold-enpenny.
Mrs. George Hartley and Mrs
L. M. Hamilton served refresh
ments. Mrs. Carl Norris is soc
ial chairman of the society.

To Hold Luncheon
At Country Club
Rogue Valley Women's Golf
association will open the 19o7
season with a luncheon Thurs
day, March 7, at Rogue Valley
County club. Past and present
members of the association are
invited to attend, and women
eligible for membership.

Gold Hill HEC
Reviews Events
Gold Hill The past six
weeks have brought much activ
ity for the Gold Hill Home Eco
nomics club. In this period wo
men of the club have served
three large dinners. The first
was for the Southern Oreeon
Farm Banks, Inc., the second
for Southern Oregon Production
Credit association, and the
third for Southern Oregon Fed
eral Land Bank association.
Over 500 persons attended
the three dinners.
In addition, the HEC serves
the Gold Hill Lions' club for
meetings twice monthly. Febru
ary 14, Lions and their guests
from nearby towns were pres
ent as guests of the Gold Hill
Lions. Some of these remained
to enjoy the hospitality of the
Grange at a valentine party that
followed the dinner.
The club also serves refresh
ments during intermission of the
Saturday night dances sponsor
ed by Vic Flood's orchestra in
the Grange hall. Attendance has
been steadily increasing at these
events and last Saturday night
Mr. Flood showed his apprecia
tion by serving a birthday cake
and coffee to celebrate one year
of playing.
Mrs. John Edinglon, HEC
chairman, states that she appre
ciates the cooperation of all who
helped with the dinners and oth
er projects.

will be elected.
Leonard B. Mayfield, superin
tendent of schools, will speak on
the need for new classrooms in
the Medford schools.
The newly formed Dad's club
will present a comedy program
Pie and coffee will be served in
the cafeteria by members of the
Dad's club following the meet
ing. All members and friends
are invited to attend.

To Hold Election
Friday Afternoon
Featured on the program for
Jefferson Parent-Teacher associa
tion meeting Friday, March 8,
will be a film entitled "He Acts
His Age". Miss Mary Vanden
burg of Southern Oregon Cliild
Guidance clinic will be discus
sion leader on the film. The film
depiots the average behavior de
velopment of the child.
The meeting will begin at 2:30
p.m. in the school gymnasium
and will be preceded by a con
ference period at 2 p.m. during
which parents are free to visit
their children's teachers in the
rooms for discussion.
Election of officers will be
held and a convention delegate
will be chosen to attend the
statewide convention to be held
in Corvallis in April. Nomina
tions from the floor will be ac
cepted at the meeting, also with
the nominee's consent. The slate
chosen by the nominating com
mittee is Mrs. Elvin Pesent,
president; Mrs. Michael Wagar,
vice president; Mrs. Jim Semple,
secretary; and Mrs. Walter Ol
son, treasurer. On the nominat- j

Ayres, Knight Honored
At College Dinner
Portland Robert Ayres and
Walter Knight of Medford wer
honored recently at the annual
honors dinner of Piatt hall,
men's dormitory at Lewis and
Clark college. .
Thirty-six men were presented
scholarship certificates and a
scholarship plaque was awarded
to the floor with the highest
grade point average.
A freshman pre-law major,
Ayres is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
E. Ayres, 26 South Oregon st.
and Knight, a freshman, is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Knight,
452 Fairmount st. Both are '56
graduates of Medford High
school.

Badminton Class
Badminton classes for women
will open at the YMCA Monday
March 11. The classes will be
limited to 24, and will be held
March 11, 13 and 18 at 1 p.m.
