construction of said improvement; and
WHEREAS the cost of said im-
termined to be the sum of $11.490 29.
NOW. THEREFORE, it is herehv de.
termined that the proportionate share
of the cost of construction of said
Improvement, on each parcel of prop
erty adjacent to said improvement
and benelited thereDy is the amount
set ppoatte the description of each
piecir or parcel of land below, and
that each piece or parcel of land
benefited by the construction of said
improvement, to the full extent of
trie amount so set opposite such piece
or parcel and that the respective
amounts represent the proportional
bene! it oi said improvement to said
respective parcels of property, and
the Council does hereby declare that

A RESOLUTION proposing to per-

notice thereof.
WHEREAS the City of Medford has
heretofore caused a water main in
the City of Medford to be laid on
Grape Street from Monroe Street to
a point 826 feet North and the Council
being of the opinion that said water
main may be used by tile property
fronting on that portion of said main
on Grape Street from Monroe Street
to a point 826 feet North in the City
of Medford. Oregon, and
WHEREAS said water main has not.
as yet. been paid for and it appearing
to the Council that the use of said
water main as a lateral water main
bv said property last above mentioned
will not materially interfere with the
use thereof for the purpose for which
it was originally laid, now therefore.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MED
FORD. OREGON.
Section 1. That it is the opinion of
the Council that that part of the
aforementioned water main laid in
the City of Medford described as
follows, to-wit:
As laid on -Grape Street from Mon
roe Street to a point 826 feet North
in the City of Medford. Oregon.
May be used by the property front
ing thereon as a lateral water main
without materially interfering with
the use thereof for the purpose of a
water main, the purpose for which it
was originally laid, and the Council
proposes to permit the owners of ad
jacent property to use the same for
lateral purposes as aforesaid.
Section 2. It is the intention of the
Council to assess the property front
ing on the street wherein said water
main is laid as hereinbefore last de
scribed its proportionate share of so
much of the cost thereof as equals
the special benefit which will result
to said property from the use of said
water main as a lateral water main
of such size as would be required to
supply the property fronting on said
street in case said water main was
not so used and the Council has and
does hereby determine that the sum
of S2.25 per front foot is the amount
of such special benefit and the pro
portionate cost of such a lateral water
main to such property as aforesaid
and intends to assess said amount
against such adjacent property on
arrount thereof.
Section 3. The council will meet
at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P.M. at
the Council Chamber in the City Hall
on the 5th day of March, 1957. at
which time and place all protests of
said assessment, as hereinbefore pro
vided for, will be heard.
Section 4. The Recorder is hereby
directed to serve notice hereof upon
the property owners aforesaid by pub
lishing this resolution 3 times in a
newspaper published and of general
circulation in said City and by posting
the same in 5 public places in said
Citv: said publication and aaid post
ing' to be not less than in days be
fore the date of said meeting.

Two Oil Drilling
Permits for Oregon
Portland (U.R) The State De
partment of Geology and Min
eral Industries said yesterday
that two new oil well- drilling
permits in the state have been
issued.
One of the permits was issued
to Standard Oil of California for
a test well about four miles
west of Condon. Spokesmen said
the permit was for one of sev
eral exploratory wells the com
pany is drilling in the Gilliam
county area.
The other permit was issued
to Miriam Oil Company for drill
ing near Dallas in Polk county.
Is That So?
An outdoorsman, to get along
in the woods, must be a Handy-
Andy sort of bird: quick to size

fireplace last night and inci-
dently a fortune may await the
person who can come up with
the answer to some of them, pro
viding the solution is economi
cally feasible.
A foolproof zipper that can
be. guaranteed against jamming;
pinching the flesh, catching
folds of cloth; holding securely
but yet opening easily. And
then put it on a sleeping bag.
As tor that sleeping bag one
is needed which can be adjusted
to prevailing temperatures: cool
on warm nights; warm on cold
nights. Perhaps the camper's
most-needed invention.
A smokeproof fireplace, re
gardless of wind. And one which
will give the benefit and plea
sure of a cheerful open fire
and yet heat the home and pro
vide hot water. At present most
of the heat goes poof, up the
chimney.
A well-ventilated shoe for hik
ers subject to heavy perspira
tion. And yet, strong enough .to
support and protect the foot in
country where the footing is
rough. And soles to withstand
rock work.
Key Method Not Success
A good built-in can opener on
each can. The present key me
thod certainly is not a total suc
cess. One which will be faster,
easier to operate, and less haz
ardous to the operator. It would
be difficult to estimate the num
bers of people who are cut daily
with the sharp edges of present
key-opened sardine cans alone.
A salt shaker -which won t
clog when the weather is damp
outdoors. Also, what about a
combination salt-and-pepper sha
ker for camping? One to be
packed together: Ergo, press one
button and you have salt; press
another and you have pepper.
A container to pack hotcake
syrup into the woods without
spilling even if the can is half-
used. And then, when using to
have one which will not drip.
Same for other liquids.
A nonwooden, heatproof but
cool handle for coffee pots.

that matter, what about a better
camp cup for coffee tea or soup:
one which is unbreakable, will

"Mrs. McThing," a two-act
play by Mary Coyle Chase, will
be presented Feb. 14 and 15 at
Medford High school by the sen
ior class.
The play is a comedy-fantasy
about a spoiled boy, who, after
being taken from his home by a
witch and replaced by a stick,
joins a group of gangsters. The
boy's mother discovers hef son
is a fake and sets out to find her
real son.
She finds him at the mob's
hangout, is replaced at home by
another stick, and stranded at
the hideout with her son, since
they cannot prove their identity.
Tickets for the production can
be purchased at Barker's,
Mann's and the First National
bank from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat
urday, Feb. 9. They will also be
sold in the high school office,
and by members of the cast.
Tulelake Soldier Given
10 Years at Hard Labor

(U.R) U.S. Army Pfc. Carl P.
Pasley, Tulelake, Calif., was sen
tenced yesterday to a 10-year
term at hard labor for stealing
$8,500 from the soldiers club he
managed.
The 33-year-old career soldier
and father of four children gave
himself up in Klamath Falls,
Ore., late last year after evading
an international police net in
August to escape Europe with
the money.
