Sinatra Cancels Australia Tour;
Claims Reservations 'Messed Up'

Sinatra, actor-crooner known
for frequent temperamental
outbursts, arrived home from
Honolulu today after cancelling
a scheduled tour of Australia
"because the tour was loused

Sinatra was said to have dis
played a bad temper when he

Sfassen Said Not
Planning To Resign

Stassen, presidential disarma
ment adviser, says he has no in
tention of resigning.
The resignation question was
raised by reporters as Stassen
left the White House Tuesday
after conferring with President
Eisenhower concerning the
March meeting of the U.N. Dis
armament subcommittee.
Stassen said recently he be
lieved the Republicans might
have regained control of Con
gress if Vice President Richard
M. Nixon had not been on the
1956 ticket.
Asked if his statement on

I House, Stassen said "no, we dis
j cussed our continuing efforts to
achieve a durable peace in the
, age of the H-bomb."

that he has forwarded the name
of former Portland Mayor Doro
thy McCullough Lee to Presi
dent Eisenhower for considera
tion as a candidate for the U.S.
Supreme Court vacancy.
In a telegram to the Presi
dent, Hatfield said Mrs. Lee is
"eminently qualified with a fine
legal mind and a broad back
ground in public service." Mrs.
Lee is currently chairman of the
Subversives Control Board and
has served as a member of the
Federal Parole Board.
